Many Evertonians want him to stay mate
Unfortunately because of our previous mistakes we cannot afford a luxury player like James (well, that's the club's thinking, and that is helped by the fact James is probably more than happy to go too).
However, in my mind, there is no way on earth our squad is stronger without James in it. And if he is there to play 25 games, and play them well, and be in an actual SQUAD (which our fans still can't get their head around), then he absolutely should be kept.
That would mean doing the hard job of selling a 21-year-old Italy international with a good goalscoring record, shifting Gomes and shifting Delph, who all offer nothing to the side and could fetch us a sizeable chunk of money and clear £300k weekly wages.
But, that's too hard to manage.
We'll see, they're good journos. Reckon they get a lot of info from the club side but there's also clearly a lot of agents they talk to to at the Athletic (for every club that seems to be where most of their stories are sourced, which is common tbf).
Just like how his wages have conveniently gone up circa £50-80k in the last two weeks, whereas they and other places were reporting £120-150k last year, it does feel like a concerted effort from the club to explain why he needs to be moved on if poss. But yes, it still gripes, because people then say 'well we need to do it', but that excuses the reasons why we need to do it - because we've been dreadfully run.

I want James to stay and would be guttered to never see him play in person for us but, it’s just as easy for him to come out and say he wants to stay as it is for him to keep answering questions on twitch in regards to if he’s playing the next game or what the future holds for him.

He missed plenty of games last season and now - He’s a year older, has a manager he has a frosty relationship with at best, we are an undisputed mid table outfit, and there is no Copa at the end of it. (World Cup not til December ‘22.)

Benitez for you isn't it, he has a set idea of what a midfielder does and I doubt James fits it. It's mad really but inevitable also I think he wants out anyway. Agree its a symptom of our bad recruitment though...200k a week sitting on the bench isn't sustainable. Sad but there it is.
