2021/22 James Rodriguez

Imagine turning up for a major tournament and being told to do one because you're taking the proverbial. You couldn't make it up.
A coked up Maradonna would run rings around him.

There are no "antics"

Why do we as a fanbase always have to be so black and white?

We brought in a top class player last year who did OK for us, came because of who the manager was at the time and got pretty much what we expected out of him.

Now times have changed, the manager is different and he doesn't want him and Rodriguez isn't that interested in changing his mind. That's fine, it happens all the time.

It doesn't have to mean that Rodriguez is up to any "antics" or is "spitting in our faces" nor does it mean that the manager hates anything creative and wants to destroy any School of Science links (which lets face it have been gone for about 30 years...).

It's a purely sporting and business thing. He can move on without us hating anyone.
I feel a bit sorry for James in that I believe he's been turned into a pawn in the ongoing pro/anti Benitez spat. People like me, who didn't want him as our new manager, look upon the James situation as justification of our stance. And many vocal Benitez supporters on here have, endeavouring to show firm support for the new manager, decided to throw James to the wolves with no real justification.

There's no doubt in my mind that the player has become marginalised at the club, and I don't understand this really as he's never come across as a disruptive character. The sad thing for me is that, apart from the young Wayne Rooney, he has probably been the most technically gifted footballer we have had at the club over the last 50 years. It will be a shame not to see more of him.

I cling to the hope that he doesn't find any suitors this window so stays at the club by default. Even though I don't believe he will be a regular starter if this happens, he could be a regular from the bench and we all know he has the quality and ability to change games.

It feels like a lot are kicking him due to his online personality rather than his football ability which is a shame.

Also, he speaks Spanish, he made a comment in Spanish, was he supposed to do it in swahili or something. far too many get a hump about absolutely f all at times.
He plays for an English club so he should conduct all his social media in English. Despite the fact that 99.99% of his social media followers speak Spanish. ;)

Having been a professional manager for many years I think Benitez knows exactly what he's doing. He's far from a idiot.
Which is why he knew exactly what he was saying when he called us a small club.

I'll forgive him 100% when he calls Liverpool a small club.

Anyway, he's our manager now so let's hope he continues to get winning performances out of this group of players.

A lot of changed views from last season going on! A couple of points I would like to add, people who say he couldn't fit into this team/or more pertinently RB's team are wrong imho. As long as you have a midfield duo of 2 of Allan/Doucoure and Gbamin and you have the speed of Gray or Townsend there too then of course it would. That would probably help the team as two people would be tasked to handle James freeing up others. He would also be able to pick out the long balls to Gray/Digne to then hopefully wip it in the box. The second is while he clearly wants out to play in Europe at a top club I don't think he would go on strike if he didn't get that move so while he is still a blue let's not attack him too much.
