He can tackle, he can pass the ball forward 5 metres, and he is quick and no need to head a ball too often...get into a ball playing midfielder and that person can do the Defence splitting passes...hopefully Frank can teach him to read the game and we could save ourselves a shedload of money.

Godfrey is by far the weakest of our centre halves so I wouldn't even be considering him as a first choice. You can't play centre half in this league if you can't win a header.

Michael Keane is putting it into his own net on almost weekly basis yet we still have every other centreback in the squad being bashed. What a charmed life he leads. Can’t run, can’t pass, ducks under crosses, has his eyes shut when heading, loses the ball in possession, disintegrates under pressure, takes about ten minutes to change direction - yet as soon as he’s criticised there’s a massive fan club to start some yeah but what about Godfrey or Holgate deflection.

I like Godfrey in that wide right centre back position behind Patterson. Think they could dovetail quite nicely given his experience in the right back position and Pattersons desire to get forward.

Could almost do that transitional 4/5 at the back thing that Ancelotti did against Liverpool with them 2.

Tarkowski is the only one of our defenders I rate. Keane was bad last season, Holgate was bad last season, but Godfrey was consistently poor. It's not deflection to say that Godfrey is a poor defender, because he makes far too many errors. You have an obsession with Keane, but he makes no more mistakes than any of the rest of them.

I've seen absolutely nothing to suggest that Ben Godfrey can play in midfield.

One of his main issues is his awareness, which he usually gets bailed out by his pace, and in midfield awareness is massive. He'll be losing the ball more regularly than any of our current midfielders.

That’s because the other defenders don’t have a militant fan group defending them at every turn. The other defenders also routinely get dropped when they make errors whereas Keane somehow seems to play every game for us.

I’m not overly enamoured with any of them to be honest and if they all got a fair amount of criticism I probably wouldn’t care about Keane but if Godfrey or Holgate did some of the nonsense Keane does they’d be absolutely slaughtered for it.

They all get criticised, but you only criticise Keane
 

Going to be a player the fanbase can get behind. Seems to have the right character and applies it on the pitch. He wouldn't have been playing for Burnley if he was a modern day Terry or Ferdinand but he's going to have similar traits to other credible CBs we've had in the PL era like Weir, Stubbs, Jagielka.
 
Aside from the mistake he was quality. Going to be a massive player for us at the back and you can tell the other players respect and feel more confident alongside him which is a rare and underrated quality.
