Steer clear of Burnley grocks.
Absolutely this.90k a week though. thats challenging for honours sort of money. Wether we like it or not the clubs been run so stupidly over the past few years we're not feeding anywhere near the top table. And likely not to be for a while. We're competing mid table right now. Do you think brighton wolves etc are paying 90/100k a week to defenders.
I think we're largely in this mess because we pay out like this. Bernard 120k. Most players playing for Champion league competing teams are not on that.
What seems to be lost here is he's a relegated player from Burnley. He's hardly jaap stam.
you're right, we do overspend on wages, and I'd like to think we'd negotiate that down. We got caught up in a 'need to spend to progress' kind of spiral and the problem is other clubs will be doing the same now. So the question is, incl free transfer, is the outlay over the course of a contract worth it, nothing else.90k a week though. thats challenging for honours sort of money. Scores a fair few anyway for a center back but he’d score easy in the Lisbon with that blue steel

As regards 'relegated player from Burnley', he is without doubt one of their best players and remember they finished the season with better GD than us, their bigger problem being the other end of the pitch.
Plenty good players were in relegated teams in the past, Roy Keane for one
If he had a foreign sounding name, you’d all be dreaming your kecks.
At least a power of foreign over Poland, I suppose lol
We've given ourselves a reputation of being that daft club that will offer a mediocre player £100k+. The problem now is that if you want to sign anyone they're gonna look around the rest of the dressing room and ask why some of the other cloggers are on £100k+ and they're only getting offered £80k or whatever.Absolutely this.
At absolute best over the next couple of seasons, we're looking at 8th-10th. That would represent real progress and its probably (sadly) the apex for us in the short-term.
That means a wage bill commensurate with where we are and where we might get to.
It doesn't mean we can't improve, but there is a ceiling there. We must first stabilise and then seek sustainable but continuous improvement.
We can do that with room to spare without handing any new signing £100k a week or in excess of that. Whether we will or not is another matter but if anything we've learnt that throwing money around isn't the solution. And that horse has now bolted anyway, or at least let's hope it has.
I would like to see how many came in the last few months of his time at us.
Total outlay is still way less than buying a target comparable to himTarkowski for that kind of money is a no from me its bonkers that kind of money is even being considered for a player like him, as mentioned we need to be looking to bring championship players in or even the likes of Bassey from rangers were 60k would probably be a huge rise to him I know we would need to offer transfer fees for these players and money is tight but 90k for Tarkowski is absolutely not the way to go.
