Player Valuation: £70m
We finished 16th we need stability this fella on a free makes so much sense. Whilst I agree we should focus mostly on youth we need some reliability/leadership in that back four/five.

It depends what you mean by 'comparable' I suppose.Total outlay is still way less than buying a target comparable to him
yes initial outlay would be more but if our recruitment is right we could get a younger player 23/24 for 15-20m get 4 seasons out of him and sell him for same or more than we paid. 90k for a player like Tarkowski is the reason we're in this exact situation. He's not going to improve id much rather take a chance on younger players and try and build something for the future not just fill gaps of more dross we should be in a building stage not just plugging holes otherwise this merry go round is never ending. we're in a position now where we should be learning from just throwing money away on bang average players we may still not be out the water and could still end up with points deductions for this season or the start of the new season.Total outlay is still way less than buying a target comparable to him
Considering we lost the majority of our points from horrific defending, I think he generates a fair few points for us.what money would we get for selling him? how many points is he going to generate for us?
since the answers are "nothing" and "none" we should make like Epicurean atomic theory and swerve
Neither did we last season though and had very low possession too. They were just better at defending than us and tarkowski was a big part of that imoIm always wary of that bit there. Mentioned it before. They're not like brighton who attack teams but dont have quality finishers. They just dont really attack that much. Esp under dyche. So its not like the defence were standing on their own keeping out the opposition. The camp in as a unit. Its a big consideration to take into account when buying a player.
Tbh if it happens it happens. The club should back off though if him and his agent start asking for silly money.
Based on what?what money would we get for selling him? how many points is he going to generate for us?

Yea, me neither, it's a fair point! I would like us to avoid another relegation battle next season and our CBs were a big part, but I do take your pointI dont want to be another burnley though. Ideally in the next season or two the whole midfield is replaced where we dont concede so much possession in the middle of the park. That has to be the aim for lampard. Which is why players like tarkowski isnt the long term solution past maybe 1 season. If we start to turn those possession stats around then i dont believe tarkowski is that quick.
That’s classic le tigre right there. How can you not see the difference?Scores a fair few anyway for a center back but he’d score easy in the Lisbon with that blue steel
I'm torn on this because while a huge part of me agrees with all that, we have to improve at both CB and CM or we are 100% going to be in another relegation battle. If Frank really likes Tarkowski and thinks he can solidify our defense, then I'm all for giving him a higher wage and using what little funds we'll have on midfield additions. It's a gamble but one that I think we have to take in this financial situation. I'd rather this gamble than the one taken on Bernard, because Tarkowski has the chance to be a foundational player for a few years, whereas Bernard was always going to be a luxury piece and rotational player due to his physical constraints.Absolutely this.
At absolute best over the next couple of seasons, we're looking at 8th-10th. That would represent real progress and its probably (sadly) the apex for us in the short-term.
That means a wage bill commensurate with where we are and where we might get to.
It doesn't mean we can't improve, but there is a ceiling there. We must first stabilise and then seek sustainable but continuous improvement.
We can do that with room to spare without handing any new signing £100k a week or in excess of that. Whether we will or not is another matter but if anything we've learnt that throwing money around isn't the solution. And that horse has now bolted anyway, or at least let's hope it has.
To that end I do think there are some other freebies out there who might make sense. Admittedly I’ve no idea what their plans or if they’ve already decided on a new club but Denayer and Zagadou are two CBs that might make sense if we’re looking abroad. Both have had injury problems tbf.I'm torn on this because while a huge part of me agrees with all that, we have to improve at both CB and CM or we are 100% going to be in another relegation battle. Overall, I'd like this club to stop handing out wages and switch to recruiting more abroad. Use our competitive advantage of being a PL club to sign players who are currently making a fraction in France, Germany, etc. But we need a solid defense to make any progress. The set piece goals against were just so horrendous this season.
The key here is the length of contract I'd say. At three or fewer years it's not much of a gamble in my opinion. Something like five years would increase the chance of it being a disaster.
