Obviously we needed a striker, but equally important is a left back. To be honest I don’t settle for that this window and leave whatever funds we have till the summer, when all likelihood we will have more funds and a new manager.

Stones, Lukaku, Barkley, Mirallas all gone in 18 months.

Replaced by Williams, DCL, Siggurdson, Bolasie.

Utterly horrible. A desperate year and a half
No matter how much we got with their sales, you never improve as a team by selling your best players (as the RS will find out with coutinho going and the likelihood of salah in the summer). For us to lose Stones, Lukaku and Barkley in the space of 18 months is a real kick in the teeth. Not only were they class players for us, they were all young players with their best years ahead of them. I am old enough to remember the great side of the 80s, but the gap that exists to the current top 4 and us, makes you wonder if we will ever be competitive again.

I think the only way I see us going after Walcott is if we have a plan to part with Lennon now, potentially loan out at least Vlasic next season and, most importantly, we see Walcott as being our #2 striker option in addition to playing on the wing. I also think it would rule us out going after a striker in the summer.

The issue isnt that we have quality wingers(yet), its that we have too many for the young ones to develop if we bring Walcott in. Keep in mind that would mean next season Walcott and Bolasie would be the starters, with likely Onyekeru as the third man, with Lookman as #4 option. No sense in keeping 5 so that means Vlasic out on loan to hope he develops.

Vlasic isn't a winger

Not that I disagree with you but we have played him there once so far, every other game has been RW, and if the manager sees him as a RW first and foremost, then hes the odd man out.
Probably because we've had Sigurdsson and Rooney playing there and he ain't better than either of those two just yet. He's getting games on the RW most likely due to our lack of options on the wings due to Bolasie being injured up until the last few games, Mirallas being a rat and crap and Lennon being steady but uninspiring and Lookman being in the same bracket as Vlasic. As far as I'm aware he's a natural number 10 with the ability to play wide if necessary.

Beautifully written mate. That's totally my view on it too.

You can't build a Formula 1 car and put family saloon parts in it and hope to be competitive.

That's even without having a tory bigot tax dodging ratfink driving it.

Kev :(

I’m not one to be positive about the current Everton set up but, and it’s a big but, Keane, Tosun, Sigurdsson, vlasic isn’t as drastic looking as your comparisons!

Obviously it remains to be seen how good Keane and Tosun turn out but there’s not much difference between the ability and match impact of the others.

I really feel for our younger fanbase. At least I have witnessed us winning the highest honours and being competitive in the late 70s. It brought home to me watching the match last night. I have a picture in our kits proudly celebrating with my son after we last beat the RS. He was 6 months old then!!! He said to me after the game last night, will we ever beat them (naturally he didn’t remember the last one). Living round here all his pals are city and united fans. He says he is the only person he knows that supports Everton and I tell him well that what’s makes you special, as you are unique in your school.
Naturally we weren’t going to achieve overnight success under our new regime. However the board has to give us some hope, particularly to the younger element of our fanbase (which will be the lifeblood of the club in future years).

I agree somewhat with what another poster said during the week

Basically if we went out the cup then there was no point in signing any other players this month. Chances are a new manager will be here in the summer so better to wait for them to come in rather than sign players now who are redundant in a few months.
That's all fine and dandy but if we keep drawing and losing games who the hell are we going to convince to come here??
