If we get a silly big offer he'll go, as long as we have a midfielder in.

But I think a lot of people are being clouded purely because of his poor form this season, mate. Managers and club officials won't be thinking along the same lines.

We paid £24m this time a year ago for him. We won't be selling for a loss so it's pie-in-the-sky stuff to definitely say he won't be here (not that you are!) come Feb.

Same with McCarthy. He's come in and played well in the last two games after so long out injured. He definitely brings something to the squad.

For a couple more games & then he'll be out for months. We can't rely on him.

..it’s a fair point. Gareth Barry and Lee Carsley were brilliant sitting in that area ‘between the lines’ that the best players exploit. As you say, it takes discipline to stay in there. I remember Fellaini saying he found it difficult because he tended to get drawn out. It’s why old fella’s can still play that position.

In the away Derby last year, Barry was amazingly on the bench which played into Mane and Coutinho’s hands. It was a massive tactical gaff as Davies and Gueye were caught the wrong side for the first two goals.

That DM shield is a specialist position.

Yep..discipline and awareness is more important than other things. Mr P Neville being the prime example - very limited player - but both Ferguson and Moyes often played him there.

We need balance. We have some good players, we have some great players and we have lot's of youth with bags of potential but the whole thing is horribly unbalanced. It might only take 2 or 3 players to make the squad we have suddenly click. Also something we lack is consistant performers, with the exception of Pickford no one has consistantly been putting in 7/8 outta 10 performances this season and that's what we need - maybe not worldies but players that produce week in week out. If we can get a couple players in that balance out the team and are consistant regardless of who we're playing then i'll be happy..... AND FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST SIGN A LEFT BACK!!

What is Gana if he isn't a holding midfielder, though?

He is poor as a box-to-box player, and playing that role negates the main part of his game which is screening the defence. He is superb at that role, hence, he's a holding midfielder.

I'd say he's a destroyer/water carrier/Gattuso. I'd class N'zonzi as a holding midfielder.

You pay 45mil for someone and play him out of position, sig has to play the 10 role for the remainder of the season, I don’t really care what happens to Rooney. Another issue is our midfield, it’s shockingly bad, probably the worst I’ve known for years. I’d replace them all, apart from the kids who have time to improve.

But until we have 2 top class centre mids, who can compete with the best and dominate the weaker teams, we will never challenge the top 6.

Playing Gylfi 10 doesn't solve the issue that we have nobody to get on the ball behind him and dictate the play, though.

I said it in the summer and I’ll say it again now they may be available. Get iheanacho. Quite a player in there.

Musa is also rapid and again with time could be a great option.

I think SA has two objectives in his tenure here. Balance the squad for the next manager, and keep us up for the next manager.
