Doucoure? No chance Watford are selling - especially to us, a rival in the hunt for 7th (maybe 6th) in the middle of the season. Also on a five year deal.

Ndombele? Lyon are in the next round of the CL. They know they'll get big money regardless when they sell him next summer.

Obviously, there's others about, but if you sell one of your better players you need quality coming straight in.

Seems to me what he's doing with that interview is trying to reset the negotiating position of the club in relation to the last 3 years.

In other words we will now be negotiating rather than simply paying what the selling club initially states, which at the figures Walsh paid it seemed we where doing.

Who actually says any of that?

Gana is the best player at what he does in the team. He's one of the best in the league in that role. Like, that's not really an argument.

Is he our best player overall? No. Does he give the ball away? Yes. Does he do it as nearly as much as you say he does? No. Does he pass forwards more than you say he does? Yes. Could his passing improved? Definitely.

Does he offer us something that is currently crucial to how we want to play? Yes.

Just a thought but what if we as a club are trying to turn away from needing a player like Gana. I 100% agree he is only beaten by Kante at what he does but what if we move to a high press/possession centered team?

His type of player would be almost completely phased out as a player like Gomes could easily play as the deepest midfielder who starts the attacks and prevents counters. If we could achieve that as a club Gomes would be able to do the work of 2 players allowing 2 more advanced and attacking minded midfielders ahead of him (possibly Bernard and Iceland?). After all he was brought to Barca to replace busquets

Gana is absolutely crucial to our high press though. I'm not saying we can't get another player who could also press, but as it stands he is the one who is the 'base' of the press. He pushes up and the rest of the team do too, with Gylfi/Rich starting the press high upfield.

TBH he’s a one man press that can stop teams in their tracks lol and do think the team could do more to relieve that pressure on him
