More chance of getting higher up the table by trying to get a forward than spending on left back cover.

I really think this is a situation of the club (EFC) not been arsed either way tbh.

We'd happily keep Jimmy Mac and if he plays like he has in his last three games for us, sound.

Thing is, he just seems to keep picking up little niggling injuries. And really the only way to get over that and find form is by playing regularly, something that we just can't offer him at this moment, even though he'd be excellent back-up.

So, if Newcastle or Palace or whoever really want him, as you say, we just wait it out. I don't even reckon he really wants to go - by all accounts he enjoys it here - but knows that for the good of his own career he may have to.

Agreed, also Newcastle are terrified about shelvey getting an injury - when he was out they struggled badly, so yeah can see them spending big on McCarthy just to try guarantee promotion
