Be interesting to see who we get, if anybody.
There is far more of a need to be practical than flashy with signings, until we have a group of players that can consolidate us comfortably back in the top 7.
What may seem like underwhelming or unexpected signings may very well gel together far more effectively as a team, that's what we're looking for and what Koeman did at Southampton.
Given our current problems, it is recovery and stability we need first and foremost. If we do make the promised land it will be at least a two or even three-stage process.
There has probably never been a higher number of players within the squad that for whatever reason, I wouldn't be particularly bothered about losing either.
Let's hope the opportunity to overhaul and rebuild is fully grasped over the next 2 or 3 windows.
Spot on this mate. I said in another post we have had two managers who were nurturers and looked for rough gems to mould. I don't think Koeman has much interest in that or the patience for it.
That being said he clearly has an eye for a player, from Southampton alone; Forster, Clyne, VVD, Alderweireld, Bertrand, Romeu, Wanyama, Tadic, Mane all picked up with some change form 100 million quid. Most of us would say that team is a striker away from being a league title contender.
I remember raising an eyebrow on some of the above signings that's for sure. Particularly lads like Clyne, Forster and Bertrand who I felt he overpaid for. But he bought lads who he could rely upon and who knew the league. Lads he can trust and can do as he wants from day 1 so he can organise them. Williams, Bolasie and Gueye seem similar to that, probably a bit pricy but at least you know what you will get.
I think we need a big statement. I also think a lot of the guys we were close to getting in the summer have had indifferent starts to the season and will be available at a reduced rate. I saw Brahimi can't get into Porto's team and is unhappy (they want not 35 or the 45 million they quoted in the summer but as little as 14). Likewise Ghezzal is nearly out of contract in the summer. Gabbiadini is now available on loan. We were close to spending serious money on those 3 in the summer and I'd love to go back and get those sort of deals done now.
Ghezzal has been utter pony this season according to these stats.

Looks like hes struggling to even get starts, 15 games played 1 goal and 1 assist.
I still think Brahimi would be a great signing. I know he has African Cup Of Nations in Jan, but I still think he'd be worth going for. Porto don't seem the easiest of clubs to deal with, though, and there were reports of third party ownership complications as well.Spot on this mate. He's been poor mate, had a good last game though. All 3 lads I mentioned (Brahimi, Ghezzal and Gabbiadini) have been underwhelming this season. I wonder if they had their heads turned and are frustrated by the current clubs negotiating stance?
That being said the stock on all of them will have fallen, but 3 lads we were willing t pay over 70 million quid for if you believe the papers may be available for around a third of the cost now. Surely they can't have become bad players over the last 3 months? I would say it would be smart business to get them in, especially given we are dependant on one man for goals. What do you reckon?

uh-oh....this looks like an attempt to apply thought and logic to a transfer window thread full of people wanting to discuss said window a month prior to the window opening (or more than a month for most of us lunatics).....Be interesting to see who we get, if anybody.
