I called the 'we were boss once so we are relevant' argument a kopite argument, you know the living in the past frame of mind? the one we rip them for having?

Fact is we have done nothing for 2 years, they have, therefore they are a much better prospect than we are currently in. Any neutral would see southampton as the better prospective team, considering they have achieved something and we havent.

Other wise we should be winning the league and anything else is a sackable offense for our managers because we are one of the top clubs in the country since 1878, so therefore very few clubs outrank us, including them chelsea and city.

As people seem to be doing wishlists, below is mine. I appreciate we won't get all of them but it's an aspiration.

1) Depay-Loan. Especially with Bolasie's injury we need lads in to help us. Hopefully a sensible option to buy at the end if we so chose. Lots of talent, gone astray at United but feels similar to Mane when he first arrived at Southampton and Koeman worked wonders with him.

2) Brahimi- Buy. A bit risky this one. Can operate across the front. I know he's had a poor season, but the fact we were willing to pay 35 million for him and he's available for around 15 looks enticing. Walsh has a good record with Algerian players too.

3) Ghezzal- end of contract agreement/small fee to buy. Similar argument to Brahimi. Could prove a bargain and can give us cover to play down the middle too.

4) Schneiderlin- buy. Class act, one of the best midfielders under Koeman. Can't believe United don't play him.

5) Gabbiadini- buy. Similar to Brahimi, has flattered to deceive, but at a knockdown price surely he can't have become a bad player overnight?

6) Fonte- For reasons posted above. A good value player and will see us through to the summer.

Get these lads in and I think we will finish no lower than 7th and may push a bit higher.

those 95 years don't matter though mate, only year that ever matters in football is the current one. Because past glories mean nothing when you are talking 20 -30 years.

the thing is though, it isn't just a short term fix is it? Because we have to outlay money to sign Fonte, plus offer him decent wages to sign, especially as he is taking a step down to come to us. So that 'short term' fix is potentially going to cost us 5 million + 52000000 quid in wages for the 2 years he is likely to be here.

It also increases the defenders we have in that position making it harder for any young ones to come in and stake a claim ala Stones which would then be detrimental. It also increases the risk of said older defender has a sharp decline, which combined with high wages means we struggle to shift them (see Mcgeady for an example) and then it weighs on the club financially.

Seriously doubt we would offer Fonte 500k per week mate ^^
