January Transfer Thread 2017

Scheiderlin transfer does seem to have some momentum behind it, with Depay a loan possibility. All paper talk of course but both are definitely being moved on it seems.

...if true the indication is that we are already on with negotiating deals. That is very positive, getting players in early is a sign they are top of the list as opposed to panic buying later on.

That being said, if Schneiderlin is indeed a goer, it wouldn't really make sense to also get The Sandwich in on loan. If we're signing him outright, then he could be someone we start working in to a more regular slot in the team in 6-12 months. If we're loaning him, we'd really have to start playing him from the off, which won't happen if we've just signed Schneiderlin

Would be great if we bought them both though

If we had those two along with Gana and Davies, we'd be sorted at Centre Midfield for a long time

Well for one Sweinsteiger is already 32, and for another Sweinsteiger has a serious injury in both seasons prior to moving to United (when he was already only a month away from 31 at that time of the move, he has also suffered from recurring injuries (ankle 3 times, and knee injuries 9 times since 2013) - in other words united bought a crocked player - and bought him purely for the name. Theres a reason Bayern let go of a club Icon without a second thought mate

Performances decline after the age of 27 - oh a study showed that, strange how everyone regards 26-30 as a footballers peak years then really isn't it.

Study one
Study two
Study three

It's reasonable to expect a footballer to turn in strong seasons at the age of 28 or 29, but if you're hoping for them to still be on an ascending trajectory at that age you're essentially hoping for a fluke.

And again: the point I'm making is that 27 is the youngest signing (Gana, maybe Schneiderlin) of the Koeman/Walsh/Moshiri era. It's not a sustainable model.

Remind me who the sandwich is again mate?

Talking to a couple of people last night there seemed a lot of confidence that the targets identified were looking promising. Intention is to deal as early as possible with ideally 5 in and a similar number departing.

Finance is not an issue, there's no requirement to sell to buy but there is a recognition that there are too many drawing wages who are not contributing and won't contribute in the future.

As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, two pieces of incoming business from Manchester United in Schneiderlin and Depay.

Pickford is high on the radar.

How about Van Dijk mate?

Does Koeman still have any relationship with him to draw from?
