Well, he played wide at Sassuolo and was brilliant - so maybe in the role that Valencia did.

If you look at Saints last season,they often had

Long - Pelle - Mane

or

Long - Mane - Tadic

as a fluid front-three.

So something along those lines I'd suggest.

Thats so depressing

Thats so depressing

Why???

Mane - the player who has by far been the RS' best this season and scored 15 goals last year?

Or Long, the 10 goal striker.

Or Pelle, who also hit double figures?

Or Tadic, who assists and scores...

They finished 6th for a reason. Just like we finished 11th for a reason.

when he is playing champions league football and we are still mid table signing all our players from the bottom half of the league, will look a little silly then.

He'll play Champions League football because some absolute sucker with too much money will look at his goal return on buy on that basis. He'll never get close to the trophy though, and we can get down to the serious business of building a cohesive team once him and his cannonshins are gone.

Mane = the chaser
Long = the runner
Tadic = pseudo playmaker

Punt and hope...

But it isn't, and it worked, much better than anything Martinez tried for two years.

Look at most of the goals we scored in RM's first season.

All of the best were when we got the ball forward quickly. Not long balls, but just quick, incisive play.

That's what we're missing.

Except, imagine this.

He plays in a team who don't hoof the ball up to him and have players supporting him on the pitch, maybe even more than one (which is what any competent team does) and he then thrives off the service when it isn't hoofed 20 foot into the air to him.

What if, and a big if here, what if our attacking play to him for the past 3 years from bog average players is the problem?

Id rather we mirrored ourselves on a title winning style rather than a Koeman team tbh.
