I really hope we sign a non league striker just to see some people's reactions on here.

It's not as simple as that though is it.
He's in his element at Sevilla and tbh I doubt he's even contemplating leaving them for anything other than a move to a massive club.
It's doubtful he'd see Everton as a step up at this stage of his career.
If we were serious about investment then we would move on from our 2007 midtable wage structure, and we would offer him about 130k a week. Which would be considerably more than what he will get anywhere in Spain. But if we continue to offer the same wages as Sunderland do, and lesser wages than the likes of Watford and West Ham, then we will remain also rans.
I don't think we'd have been paying four players £80+k p/week in 2007...
You have this thing that everything comes down to money...
Witsel, Sissoko. Two players who we tried to sign in the window/came close to getting and offered huge wages to, prove that your point doesn't always stand.
It does come down to money. That's how City made the transformation from bottom half dross to the European elite. They offered more money than their competitors, whilst we continue to offer less than our competitors, even less than the likes of West Ham and Watford.
I imagine Spurs offered higher wages to Sissoko, and the difference in wages being offered between Juventus and Everton would not have been big enough to change Witsel's mind. Paying him a mid-table premier league wage that is 20k more than what he is being offered at an elite club like Juventus is not enough. Offer him double what he would get at Juventus with a 130k weekly wage and they will come, no doubt about it.
But of course we didn't offer such wages, and we continue to employ the same player wage and transfer strategy that we did 10 years ago, so we remain with all the other mid-table also-rans, just like we did 10 years ago.
I understand where you are coming from but you can't just go around offering insane wages to one or two particular players. That would disrupt the players we already have even more. With the better ones wanting the same.
did we not give yannick 90 grand a week?I understand where you are coming from but you can't just go around offering insane wages to one or two particular players. That would disrupt the players we already have even more. With the better ones wanting the same.
