January Transfer Thread 2017

A positive about Lookman and Belfordil is that for the combined £21.5 million we've paid for them we'll get that back from the inevitable sales of Cleverly and Deulofeu. All we need then is for Hull to be conned into paying £10 million for Niasse and we'll have done some OK business.

Still need another winger and CB this window IMO hoping for Depay and Keane.

I would also add atm we have spent around £53 million net these 2 windows:

Steklenburg: £500k
Gueye: £7 million
Williams: £12 million
Bolasie: £28 million

Schneiderlein: £24 million
Lookman: £11 million
Belfodil: £10.5 million

Total: £93 million

Out: Stones £40 million (£47.5 before Barnsleys cut)

£53 million roughly net. Schneiderlein and Gueye are massive improvements in midfield but unless Lookman and Belfodil are successes then overall I would say our transfer business hasnt been great considering we have spent over £90 million.

Obviously Cleverly, Niasse, Deulofeu and McCarthy all out the door in the summer will probably raise around £30-50 million which will have us closer to 0 net spend, so we have manoeuvre to still spend money imo.

Bolasie injured at such a high cost has made it shocking business if in all likelihood he comes back with either/both a yard of pace missing and unable to twist and turn as freely, all symptoms of bad ACL injuries.

We were a team selling our best players and getting cast offs in on loan. If you'd rather buy the Cleverleys of this world than pay decent money for Schneiderlin then you can't expect Everton to challenge. This is the modern game. We haven't had a decent value signing since the Moyes days.

Short memories.... This lad was worth twice what we paid for him, maybe even 3 times as much.

I meant more in the Martinez days sorry, Gueye is a great buy. That said he did have a release clause, what would his market value have been?

When you look at the fees Newcastle demanded for the players who took them down you have to think Villa would have wanted £15-£20m minimum, or possibly just to have kept him.

On a personal level this window is currently shaping up to be 1 of my best.

Morgs in
Dafodil looking likely
Really like the look of Lookman

Niasse, Geri and The Clev getting binned.

My God.
I'd be surprised if Geri went in this window, unless you have some particular insight. I certainly think he'll be off in the summer. Do you see Lookman as a direct replacement?
