January Transfer Thread 2017

He doesn't like the 'clever' players. He wants athletic players.

We have a complete change of methodology. A counter revolution...which is why Koeman cant or wont work with the current staff even though they are fit for purpose for another way of playing.

Down to him now. He's in the hot seat and he'll be punted if all these mediocre players for big fees dont perform.

Which is exactly how it should be. He should be given a reasonable amount of time to get the team performing and if he doesn't he should be moved on. I don't know anyone who would want a manager to keep on going despite not moving the team forward. o_O

As for the current staff - what purpose are they fit for? Martinez bought them to fit his style and they took us to two 11th placed finishes; does this mean they could do it and Martinez just couldn't get the best out of them?

He'll get time. This time next season is easily enough to determine if he's worth continuing with.

The players he inherited were capable of very good attacking football. They just needed the defence sorted. Obvioulsy that's proven beyond Koeman's abilities, so we demolish the whole lot and bring in players (over valued) he thinks can get us a trophy or up the league to top 5.

We shall see.......

You don't think he deserves as much time as Martinez got?

Did Moyes and Martinez hold their hands up to signings and were their records in the market overall a problem?
To an extent they did. Moyes was far more successful than Martinez but still signed more than his fair share of flops. For every Cahill there was an Anderson Da Silva, Per Koldrup and James Beattie. Martinez left the club with more detritus that we can't/couldn't move on.

So yes. It was a problem in terms of wasted resources, even to this day.

Is this new system fail proof? No, there will still be the occasional damp squib but more often than not there should be players who can come in and have a long term positive effect on the team.

Personally I think Koeman should get two full seasons and if there isn't obvious progression the club should re-assess. Ultimately, the will be Moshiri's decision though.

Last season Everton conceded 55 goals - the defence didn't just need "sorting", it was a complete shambles. Just as it took RM a good 12 months to undo the Moyes era defence, RK will need a similar amount of time to put his stamp on this defence. That being said, we have conceded 21 goals so far this season, and if that remains as the average, he will have the defence back to a position it was when Moyes was in charge.

interesting to know if we're doing all these loan deals as outgoings, with the intention to sell them all next summer to give us a bigger transfer budget with FFP rules (if we qualify). We could sell them all now, but it would be much more beneficial to get rid in the summer. I can't see how values will go up for said players, but there we go

Dave isn't really being any more negative about Koeman than some were at the start of Martinez's reign to be fair

Up to that 1-0 win over Chelsea people were expressing a lot of doubts

Those shouts died down somewhat when we did well for the rest of the season but came back to the fore when the form dropped in 14/15

Basically, if we start doing really well under Koeman Dave will return to Valhalla to slumber and feed, only returning if we start losing again
