We conceded 39 goals under Martinez in that first season...so much for undoing the defence in the first 12 months.

No he did that in season 2 i.e. 12 months after starting, when he turned 39 into 50 and as a result 72 into 47

This is ridiculous. Thankfully, and I speak for 95-98% of Evertonians here Martinez is long long gone and he will never ever be back.

The issue we have with full backs is the same as most clubs have at the moment. When the trend was to play position based football, most clubs signed full backs who were better going forward than in defensive. Why? Because the formation meant that the DM dropped back and created a back 3 while the fullbacks bombed on. Its why Liverpool signed players like Clyne, Moreno and why Coleman had such a great season for us.

However, now the trend has returned to a more orthodox back four and the two DM are expected to harry and win the ball rather than drop deep and control the play. This has meant that a lot of full backs are struggling as they are more expected to do more defensive work.

Okay @Devek enough is enough about Martinez(he's gone) an his 1st season, wow he got 71 points where did we finish? 5th same as Moyes did a few times and Moyes also got us 4th. Wow he got us to 2 semi finals, big whup Moyes took us to a FA cup Final. Martinez also gave us 2 4-0 hammering at Anfield also failed to beat Liverpool. Got stuffed in Russia. Signed a player who can't even play football for 13.5 mil. He played horrendous football that was boring, turned Fortress Goodison in to happy away fans land. He had 1 good season 3 years ago get over it already, we moved on.

My overriding memory of the Martinez era that I'll forever associate with him, is the sight of away fans bouncing up and down in the corner opposite my seat in the top balcony.

Yeah, but you shouldn't be signing a whole squad of them. Martinez had 3 seasons and has 1 hit Lukaku who cost 30 mill. Barry is old, Deulofeu inconsistent, Besic injured. The rest utter toilet. We can't repeat that strike rate.

Last year we were conceding for fun and you really think that a manager can fix that within 6 months just because he was a defender with almost the same players? Every thing what's going wrong or every loss is down to Koeman in your eyes. Dream on, it will take years before we've cleaned up the mess your hero left behind.

Both Martinez and Moyes left us with players they bought who would (in total) fetch more on resale than they paid out for them. Let's hope Koeman does the same trick.
