Oh my word, a name I haven't heard in quite some time. Terrific player.
Just looking at how Koeman played at S'ton mate, they never really had that 'no.10' as such.
They had quick, powerful players up top with good movement who created space, and high energy in the midfield to push them up the pitch.
ATM, the system that allows us to do that well is this 3 at the back. We remain defensively solid enough, while the wing-backs and Dvies push up, freeing up Barry to sit deep and Barkley to roam, with Kev popping up around Rom.
A wide forward to come in and supplement that is the key now I think, rather than an out and out replacement for Del. That allows some variation in the formation when needed.
Throw in a CB with power and pace and we can go to a back 2 without losing that shape as well.

How will that work against teams that sit back and pack their defence though. I guess our next 4 home games may supply the answer.
I just think a playmaker and dead ball specialist will help in those sittuations. Been our ac.hiles heel for a while now

So, for when we have to switch systems, I think a playmaker is key. Barkley can't do the No.10 role. I suppose Kev is the most natural fit for that but maybe he's not consistent enough.

Can't see us signing a 'wide forward' whilst the club still have:
Mirallas, Lennon, Del, Bolaise, McGeady, Lookman and Cleverley on the books.
I think we'll wait til summer after we have got shut permanently of 3 or 4 of those.
I think we may sign 'like for like' replacements if Jags or Kone are shipped out. Not expecting anything else until the squad is trimmed.
