January Transfer Thread 2020

A few papers reporting that Everton will unveil massive losses at the shareholders AGM which they say will reduce the amount of money Ancellotti has to spend on transfer. Figured are frightening. £500 million on players,. 20 off million on managers before Silva's is paid. Second highest wage bill per income received. Makes for glum reading. Come on down Mr Usmanov asap

We already knew about the losses and we were all expecting it, no biggie.

I actually thought it was a positive piece, this in particular

“Sources close to the club confirmed record losses would be released within days for last season, but maintained they were not at risk of breaching financial fair play rules and long-term investment in the squad and the club’s new stadium would not be affected”.

They clearly have a plan, and remain ambitious despite how it’ll be spun by the likes of the Esk who has no idea what that plan will be.
It's record losses. The club is run like a mad house. No one needs to spin that.

Look at the sheer waste on wages, fees and severance packages in the 4 years since Moshiri has been here.

He's a disaster.

The telegraph reports that the money available for Ancellotti transfers will be reduced. Another paper says it illustrates the gulf between us and the RS financially

So this morning we have:

INS
Rodriguez on loan (mirror)
Branthwaite £750k (multiple)
Gedson Fernandes (mail)
Ruben Dias + Ferro (mail)
Joe Roden (mail)
Gabriel Barbosa (mail)

OUTS
Tosun on loan to Palace (multiple)

Hopefully @Eggs will add some more detail and sizzle later on...

For me, the signings from the list I would like would be Ferro, Dias, Fernandes and Branthwaite.

Ferro and Dias are both very similar players at Benfica. Ferro is the left sided centre back and Dias is on the right.

Both 22, Dias has had almost global links to the top tier sides and 16 caps while Ferro has gone under the radar with no caps to his name. Im not quite sure why as I cant see the difference between them really, perhaps @BlueToff @Nymzee could enlighten me?

Seems strange that we are linked with Benficas starting two centre backs...never heard of anyone selling both in a Jan window but still exciting lol

Fernandes seems to have fallen out with his coach and is a world class talent...branthwaite of course has the feel of a Stones/Holgate type signing.

Id be very happy if we brought those 4 players in this window (as unlikely as it may be).

They’re not similar centre halves.

Come off it.

No way Carlo took the job knowing that we were skint.
Likewise... no way would we give him the job after promising money for transfers to only days later tell him... oh by the way we’re skint.

It’s the gutter press trying to keep little auld Everton down in the pecking order.

Just wait and see their faces when Usmanov drops his first billion into the club!

It's record losses.
It is you’re right, but he doesn’t seem overly bothered does he? The consensus seems to be that he remains ambitious and will continue to invest in the squad. Mistakes have been made by Moshiri no question, the biggest one appointing Steve Walsh and trusting him with his cash. But that hasn’t stopped him from attempting to remedy those mistakes and he’s still by all accounts, intent on investing in the squad.
You’ll always get a greater chance of success with this kind of owner than you will with the majority of other owners in this league who are not so generous with their cash!

For this month, January. “Long term investment in the squad won’t be affected”.

Well it's not surprising is it, We have so much crap in the squad that we can't shift and proper bang average players on 100k a week like Gylfi and Morgan then we have people like Sandro and Martina who we'll struggle to sell regardless and Niasse, I'm not bothered though Ancelotti wouldn't have joined if he wasn't promised funds.

It’s not been easy but have faith... Usmanov will not be here just to make up the numbers.

This guy is one of the richest men in the world. He wants success.

The financials aren't coming as a shock to anybody, we just have to work on the basis that if Ancelotti is satisfied with the figures in terms of projected transfer spending over the next few years, then we will have to be too.

The next few seasons are about reforming off-field processes as well as getting results on it. It isn't all about spending tens of millions each time a problem is identified. It does mean that we really have no room for failed transfers anymore be they of the more flashy or less glamourous type and that is the onerous part, and that's why the detail of the relationship between Brands and Ancelotti is critical.

We have got our elite manager and are hopefully going to see construction of the stadium begin in the next 12 months. Of the three critical elements, one is in place (manager) the second is work in progress (stadium), and the final and most obvious and important one - the squad - is not there yet and not close.

For me it is about sound decisions from now on and admitting to and learning from mistakes made. I think the rebuild of the team to make it competitive will be on a timeframe roughly on par with the stadium build. Ancelotti has a 4 1/2 year contract and I expect he'll need all of that time to get us in a position where we need to be.
