January Transfer Window 2023

No one thing will save us from relegation, but Pickford is one of the biggest assets we have in that battle.

I’m very much in the camp that it would be extraordinarily dumb to sell our best player for the second window running while battling relegation.
Teams that can’t score goals get relegated. We could have Buffon in goal, but if we don’t address our biggest problem quickly, we are going down.

One mistake leads to another: failing to sell Anthony Gordon when he was at the top of his market value now leads us to selling Jordan Pickford when he is about to peak (and will glean a lower fee than we could possibly have gotten for Gordon).

We broke the Brian Clough and Peter Taylor rule. Sell a player when he peaks. Not a day before or after. We missed the peak for Gordon - even if it was obvious to many of us - and we will punt Pickford before his time. It's not one error that will relegate this club. It is the continuous accretion of these blunders that leads eventually to the perfect storm.
Even if the 60m number was highly exaggerated anything 35-40 should’ve been accepted for Gordon. He still has potential but he has so much development to do and his lack of composure in front of goal cost us again against wolves. If Lampard vetoed the sale out of stubbornness it’s a big mark against his judgement. Sadly there will not be takers in that price range this January or next summer.

The galling thing was the public belligerence of Lampard in rejecting even the thought of a sale, calling the player "special". It was an incredible misjudgement and misguided act of faith in a player who has gone on, predictably, to let him down. Decisions like these cost jobs...

A combination of richarlison,Pickford and the crowd kept us up last season.

We’ve flogged one, proposing to flog the other and blaming poor results on the latter.

Run by absolute clowns.

Not selling Pickford at his peak would also be an error?

Gordon should have been sold, but if we then got a big offer Pickford also should be.
