January Transfer Window 2023

That’s why you tend to have a full year to plan. You know, that utter weird concept where you look at all your variables and start having things out in place

Oh struggling with cash, let’s look at lower divisions or countries outside of mainland Europe. Or, let’s look at the loan situation.

And we don’t have to sell at all
Our financial position is still utterly rotten. We’re still losing money hand over fist. Somehow or other our accountants have managed to get the league to agree that a £300m+ loss over three years fits within their £105m limit. The COVID argument will come to an end soon, so of course we’re still in financial trouble and will be for a while.

Im also fairly sure there is a plan In place, whether you want to believe it or not. I doubt they have got to January and realised they need to think about targets.

Also, do you actually think they haven't been looking at lower league players or players from Europe? The difficulty is that lower league players are a gamble. If they are any good, they will probably be expensive and have other clubs interested In signing them. As an example, it seems we have already inquired about Bremerton Diaz, Sarr, Gyokeres etc as have many other clubs. We have also linked with a number of European players, but the World Cup made it more difficult to do business as performances caused values to increase.

Finally, loans usually happen at the end of the window when the selling club has no further options to sell. That’s just the way it is.

I would love to get good players signed early, but I am also realistic. Whether we like it or not, we are not currently an attractive proposition financially, or from a footballing point of view. It is therefor3 most likely that our business will be done later on in the window.

It's not negative or bile to say we should have a forward lined up and ready to come in. The side has a chronic shortage of goals and has done since 1st July when we sold our best player. That's a full 6 months we've had to find an answer and it's not acceptable. Every game that goes by without finding a new player is likely to be more points dropped. We played 5 games this year without a forward - it's beyond a joke.

People need to hold this club to proper standards and stop giving them excuses. They are incompetent and unfit to run a top flight football club.

We already have too many players we should never have signed, we don't want to add to that list in this window.

Clubs will not want to sell their best players in January and not every player wants to join a club threatened with relegation.

When people say that we should have players ready to step in on Jan 1st they are dealing in reality.

I think we are looking at creative players more than anything and I think we are still following Kudus but that may not happen but at least we would be chasing the type of player we all would want.

It is negative bile when it's repeated ad nauseam with no basis.

It's not negative bile, it's the truth. The club is not competent in recruitment and it's beyond a joke that fans can see things that highly paid executives cannot.

There is plenty of basis to say that this club needs big changes so I'm not sure what your point is.

There are lots of reasons why nothing changes at this club. One of them is the refusal to accept criticism of the club.

Thank you @ToffeeTim. I respect you deeply. The club is a shambles.

a whole lot of excuses for an inept board and director of football

We all know we need a forward, it’s not negative to say it. It is far harder to assert that the business should already be done. There are multitudinous external and internal factors that could make that very difficult or impossible. The realists amongst us know that clubs in our situation do not have the whip hand regarding transfers. We are bottom feeders looking for scraps.
