January Transfer Window 2023

Somebody pointed out yesterday that Simms has a better ratio of minutes played per goal than Gyokeres does. In the same division.

If that's true, what's the point of buying Gyokeres instead of recalling Simms, unless there's some starkly obvious reason why Simms definitely WON'T make it at Prem level and Gyokeres definitely will?

Let's upgrade the wide options: I'd be happy to see Gordon and Gray backing up two new arrivals. Tsygankov remains interesting IMHO.

I think that was me, it may have been someone else as well.

Simms around around every 150 mins, Gyokores around 170 minutes.

Mate Sancho isn’t in a good place mentally at the moment, needs to sort his issues out before thinking of returning to football
I'm quite alarmed at how many of our fanbase know about this yet seemingly still want to sign him and disrupt his recovery process showing a complete disregard for the young lads health. Some of our fans need to have word with themselves imo.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see him go out again in January to be honest, hes been dropping shapes in the Championship and we may get a better deal in terms of loan fee or wage % now then we did on the deal with Sunderland in the summer, in the meantime he gives us an insurance and option if we cant do anything substantial in Jan.

Would rather we took Sancho on loan than Elanga.

Im not Sancho's biggest fan but think he at least has some level of proven talent whereas Elanga is another Anthony Gordon hype job imo.

Yeah sancho would come in as our best player from the off. Hes fast, direct and has a eye for goal. Hes literally the player we need and a player we wouldn't be able to get apart from his current situation at United.

Hed be the first player we should go for and one we could of gotten in January 1st.

I'd bet these people have not seen Gyokeres play and possibly not even Simms play much either.
There's more too it than just checking the goal ratio.

Sunderland are a more attacking team than Coventry this season, are higher in the league create more chances and score more goals.
Coventry under Robbins are fairly pragmatic and don't create as much chances, they rely on Gyokeres physicality which is something we need.

Gyokeres is good focal point, leads the line and is involved in build up play and can hold the ball up, back into defenders, what we're looking for.

Simms despite being a big lad doesn't really play like it, he's more of a poacher and needs service in and around the box.

Gyokeres would be a great signing for us, unsure if we have the £20 million + to buy him though

A very Happy New Year to each and every one of you and I wish you all nothing but positivity, perseverance and the best of luck for the coming year. Let’s face it, from a footballing perspective we’re going to need it.

Anyway, without further ado here’s the transfer gossip for 1st Jan 2023!

Juventus are interested in 29-year-old Everton and Mali midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure. (Calcio Mercato Web - in Italian)external-link

According to Sky Sports, Fulham are interested in striking a January deal which would see Doucoure swap Goodison Park for Craven Cottage. Negotiations over a move to west London are understood to be in the early stages, while Nottingham Forest have also joined the race for Doucoure’s signature.

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are interested in signing Jordan Pickford from Frank Lampard’s Everton and so are Graham Potter’s Chelsea, this is according to the unmentionable via [Publication is blacklisted due to spam] online

Everton could look at potential deals to add one of Coventry City and Sweden’s Viktor Gyökeres or Blackburn Rovers and Chile’s Ben Brereton Díaz to Frank Lampard’s squad at Goodison Park in January, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

West Ham United are now reportedly the “favourites” to land Everton outcast Michael Keane in the January transfer window as David Moyes looks to bolster his defensive roster. That’s according to journalist Paul Brown (via Give Me Sport), who claims Hammers’ boss David Moyes managed the centre-back briefly during his stint as manager of Manchester United, and the Scotsman is now keen on a reunion at the London Stadium.

According to a report from the Daily Mail earlier in December the toffees are interested in Stoke City‘s Harry Souttar

No money?
Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison has spoken of his surprise at Everton’s decision to recall ex-Blackpool and Hearts loanee, Ellis Simms, from Sunderland.

“That’s the big call: Championship to the Prem,” Morrison said on Sky Sports News. “Let me tell you something, you see League One to the Championship, it’s not a big gap. [The] Championship to the Premier League is a big gap, especially for centre-forwards.

“I think Simms has been outstanding. When I saw that news, I just went ‘I can’t believe it’ because he was flying for Sunderland. I thought Sunderland would maybe have an opportunity to finish in the top six [of the Championship] with him and Ross Stewart.

“I think [Lampard] had to do it. And that just goes to show that come January, there’s no money there for him to spend. I thought Everton would go out and buy a centre-forward. It hasn’t worked out with Neal Maupay as yet and Calvert-Lewin, he just can’t get fit.”

Everton are looking to complete four “important pieces of business” within the coming weeks, as reported by Sky Sports journalist, Vinny O’Connor.

Frank Lampard is looking to convert Conor Coady’s loan move from Wolves into a permanent one, and it could happen in the January window.

The Merseyside outfit are also looking to agree new contracts with Jordan Pickford, Alex Iwobi, and Anthony Gordon, and talks have been progressing really well.

Mason Holgate could be allowed to leave Everton in January with Southampton now in the hunt to sign the Englishman, according to Neil Moxley [Sunday People, 1 January, Page 50].

The 26-year-old has fallen considerably down the pecking order at Goodison Park and the financial issues afoot mean that the Toffees could look to cash in on Holgate while they still can.

Everton manager Frank Lampard will be looking to bring in a ‘goalscoring winger’ as a ‘priority’ in the January transfer window, according to journalist Paul Brown.

As per the Daily Mail, Everton are looking to bring Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga to Goodison in January, with the 20-year-old frustrated with the lack of minutes he has been getting this season.

According to The Athletic, the Toffees have continued to track the progress of Mykhaylo Mudryk, who they targeted in the summer, while the same report also credits them with an interest in Watford’s Ismaila Sarr.

Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres is also named as an accessible option for Lampard in January, and he may be considered, given his versatility in being able to play across the front three, as per Transfermarkt.

Can cope with Simms as a 3rd/4th choice to just get some minutes here and there, but we are in BIG trouble if he’s regularly starting games, regardless of his ‘minutes per goal involvement’ stats in a lower league.
