January Transfer Window 2023

We should have spent the summer money better then in fairness
Should've spent all Moshiri's ill gotten gains better I think. Few exceptions but our business on his watch is possibly the biggest waste of money in modern day football. Not just this summer. Arguably this summer wasn't great but comparably not too shabby.

He’s been in post a year. He sold Richarlison and thought it was appropriate to purchase Dwight McNeil and Neal Maupay

Our 5 attacking players have scored less than 50 top flight goals in the entire careers. If this is not addressed, as it should have been done in the summer, we go down.

That’s the bottom line
To be quite frank, if I was in football, I wouldn’t come anywhere near Everton. We’re a dismal club who have been very badly run for a long time and the problems are endemic and some of our fans are really toxic. If you come here, you get infected with tge poison.

Richarlison was leaving, whether we wanted it or not. The FFP situation forced it to happen.

I accept that Maupay and McNeill are not upto scratch, but Coady and Tarkowski are both big successes and Onana looks like he will develop well.

Your goalscoring stat is wrong. DCL has scored 45 PL goals and Maupay has scored 27 PL goals.

As far as I can see, one transfer window is not enough to sort our problems out. It will take a lot longer and will require a thick skinned individual to ignore all the crud thrown at them.

A very Happy New Year to each and every one of you and I wish you all nothing but positivity, perseverance and the best of luck for the coming year. Let’s face it, from a footballing perspective we’re going to need it.

Anyway, without further ado here’s the transfer gossip for 1st Jan 2023!

Juventus are interested in 29-year-old Everton and Mali midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure. (Calcio Mercato Web - in Italian)external-link

According to Sky Sports, Fulham are interested in striking a January deal which would see Doucoure swap Goodison Park for Craven Cottage. Negotiations over a move to west London are understood to be in the early stages, while Nottingham Forest have also joined the race for Doucoure’s signature.

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are interested in signing Jordan Pickford from Frank Lampard’s Everton and so are Graham Potter’s Chelsea, this is according to the unmentionable via [Publication is blacklisted due to spam] online

Everton could look at potential deals to add one of Coventry City and Sweden’s Viktor Gyökeres or Blackburn Rovers and Chile’s Ben Brereton Díaz to Frank Lampard’s squad at Goodison Park in January, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

West Ham United are now reportedly the “favourites” to land Everton outcast Michael Keane in the January transfer window as David Moyes looks to bolster his defensive roster. That’s according to journalist Paul Brown (via Give Me Sport), who claims Hammers’ boss David Moyes managed the centre-back briefly during his stint as manager of Manchester United, and the Scotsman is now keen on a reunion at the London Stadium.

According to a report from the Daily Mail earlier in December the toffees are interested in Stoke City‘s Harry Souttar

No money?
Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison has spoken of his surprise at Everton’s decision to recall ex-Blackpool and Hearts loanee, Ellis Simms, from Sunderland.

“That’s the big call: Championship to the Prem,” Morrison said on Sky Sports News. “Let me tell you something, you see League One to the Championship, it’s not a big gap. [The] Championship to the Premier League is a big gap, especially for centre-forwards.

“I think Simms has been outstanding. When I saw that news, I just went ‘I can’t believe it’ because he was flying for Sunderland. I thought Sunderland would maybe have an opportunity to finish in the top six [of the Championship] with him and Ross Stewart.

“I think [Lampard] had to do it. And that just goes to show that come January, there’s no money there for him to spend. I thought Everton would go out and buy a centre-forward. It hasn’t worked out with Neal Maupay as yet and Calvert-Lewin, he just can’t get fit.”

Everton are looking to complete four “important pieces of business” within the coming weeks, as reported by Sky Sports journalist, Vinny O’Connor.

Frank Lampard is looking to convert Conor Coady’s loan move from Wolves into a permanent one, and it could happen in the January window.

The Merseyside outfit are also looking to agree new contracts with Jordan Pickford, Alex Iwobi, and Anthony Gordon, and talks have been progressing really well.

Mason Holgate could be allowed to leave Everton in January with Southampton now in the hunt to sign the Englishman, according to Neil Moxley [Sunday People, 1 January, Page 50].

The 26-year-old has fallen considerably down the pecking order at Goodison Park and the financial issues afoot mean that the Toffees could look to cash in on Holgate while they still can.

Everton manager Frank Lampard will be looking to bring in a ‘goalscoring winger’ as a ‘priority’ in the January transfer window, according to journalist Paul Brown.

As per the Daily Mail, Everton are looking to bring Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga to Goodison in January, with the 20-year-old frustrated with the lack of minutes he has been getting this season.

According to The Athletic, the Toffees have continued to track the progress of Mykhaylo Mudryk, who they targeted in the summer, while the same report also credits them with an interest in Watford’s Ismaila Sarr.

Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres is also named as an accessible option for Lampard in January, and he may be considered, given his versatility in being able to play across the front three, as per Transfermarkt.
No amount of Glue could make them think we have a sniff of a chance with Mudryk...

Cheers as always Bob

I seen a couple of tenuous links to jadon sancho the other week and noticed yesterday ten hag saying yesterday he’s back in the country and training.

Not sure how likely it is he’d want to come here but id definitely try. He’ll definitely get the game time here that he’s probably not going to get at United. Realistically we’ll probably end up with that elanga kid instead. We do love a loan from united though dont we!

Avoid avoid avoid.

I hate to say it too, yet look across the park at those across the park with signing Gakpo early because of their needs - Diaz and Jota.

On the other hand, though, it's often the exception rather than the norm for players to be signed early, especially in the January window.

You'd hope we are sorting a deal right now and getting it over the line as soon as possible, but thinking honestly the situation won't be as simple as we'd hope.
Of course mate, it is an exception, but it's not impossible.

I'm not even saying we NEED to have a player ready to sign now (though that would be nice) but we should absolutely have a target lined up and ready to be in this week.

We won't do, though. We'll leave it late again.

There's three league games to play in Jan I believe, that's 9 points up for grabs. If we get 6 then we could well be in mid-table by the end of the month. It could easily go the other way and we be rooted to the bottom.

We need to go against the norm then. We are desperate.
