January Transfer Window 2023

We need to go out and sign a couple of good attackers. Surely we cannot risk our PL status. Our wages bill should be under control by the summer.

Kean - £28m coming in
Contract is up - Mina, Townsend, Begović, Doucouré, Coleman, Davies, Vinagre, Lonergan
Players available for sell - Holgate, Keane, McNeil, Maupay, Gomes, Gbamin, Virgínia, Dele
We've said this for last 2 maybe 3 seasons IIRC

Gomes should get a fee. Loan out Gbamin or Dele if no one buy them.

Id hope so - still we are in a weak negotiating position, he costs us 10 mill + a season, he has a year on his contract - 4.7 mill in wages - i dont know if he would walk away from that, also not sure Lille will compensate him for it or want to pay a fee when they can get him for nothing in January 24. very little incentive for either to do a deal, when we will no doubt be loaning him out again. His book price is 5.7 mill. Its indicative of the problem at the club.

You could apply the same to the other two lads.

If anyone is wondering where our losses come from its in deals like this.

Central midfield in particular is a black hole - think of all the central midfielders and cost and wages since say Idrissa left the first time, 100's of million + alone and we still have Tom Davies as a viable option. Criminal.

Gomes probably fetch like €2.5m.

No one will buy Dele. Mutual consent?

If Davies is gone (contract expires) we may keep Gbamin as back-up.

Did you miss the part where City sold £200m worth of players last year or deliberately leave it out?
I left it out but if you want them here you go:

Out this season: 160m
In this season: 140m

Last season out: 93m
In last season: 140m

Season before out: 64m
In season before: 160m

Season before out: 71m
In: 79m

Out: 338
In: 519

Spend: 181m

So the answer to your question is, yes I did miss it out, however they may of sold 200M worth of players this season but over 4 seasons they have spent close to 200m.

So they’re nowhere near at risk of breaching their FFP are they? Especially as they have mega sponsorship coming in as well as Champions League money and Premier League prize and TV money which isn’t shared out equally either. They are light years ahead of us in every single performance metric as a business.

Begovic will get a new contract due to Pickford's impending £15m move to Spurs once our relegation is confirmed. But he'll be a steady enough goalkeeper in the Championship next season. Doubt we can sell any of those - possibly Holgate and Virginia only the only realistic ones due to the others' wages (Gomes, Keane, Dele) / board probably considering them good for our promotion push next season (Maupay, McNeil) / the fact they are just crap (Gbamin).

2.5 million would be a good deal to get him off the books mate, but he’d have to accept a big hair cut on wage on the last year of his contract, he could if Lille came in for him and wanted the move….

Don’t even know on Dele, it’s unprecedented really where could he go, the championship, maybe Poch would take a chance in him if he rocked up somewhere.

Gbamin is just a black hole, just burning money. What’s has he played 3-4 games for the club in a 40mill + investment for the club in fee and wages.

Brands has a lot to answer for….

Such as what exactly? He wasn't the one who nearly destroyed Gbamins career by playing an unfit player who didn't want to play that was Silva.

What exactly mate, examine the deals he did, the contracts he handed out the contribution of those players to the club and the losses the club has endured as a result then tell me he did a good job. I’ll start you off with Mina, Gomes and Gbamin, cost, wages, games played…..

Yes I know, clutching at straws but it’s still a monopoly over us. We spend 500m in say 5/6/7 years and that’s still affecting us now, why? We have got rid of most of the players who came in during that time.

The board do our contracts (you know this) and all the players you have listed suffered major injuries which you are blaming on the DoF, so it wasn't Son that broke Gomes ankle it was Brands was it?

Here's a handy little image to answer why we can't sign anyone and clubs (eg Wolves) are blowing us away.

That position will have hopefully improved though as high earners have been departing and transfer spending has been reducing dramatically under Benitez and Lampard.
