January transfer window 2024

I meant he hasn’t grown up through the Portuguese ranks, in reference to someone saying there’s never been good players in the Portuguese league as a bit of a dig. My point is how many top players move there at 25, even the championship to the Portuguese league is a sideways step, apart from
Europe, which they probably don’t last that long in the competition
It was a bit of a weird move I agree but I also think he wont stay there that long either.

Possibly. I can already see Branthwaite going in the summer. And really if someone is willing to shove £60m our way, are we really going to say no, in our state?

Hope that doesn't happen, obviously.
I doubt we sell that cheap, which sounds mad at 60mil. But look at the prices last summer and fofana went for 80, he’s a very good player, but white 50, think ake was 50, stones 47mil nearly 8yrs ago

I think it was a sensible move. I wish more decent players followed this sort of route. I hate it when decent, but relatively unproven, players go to some mega-club to sit in the bench or get endlessly loaned out. This lad chose to go to a less glamorous league where he'd almost certainly get plenty of game time at an historic club and he's done really well. He'll probably be at a more glamorous club in a more valued league this time next year with far better prospects. He did the right thing, imo.

Jonathan Rowe looks a great prospect in the championship (Norwich). Someone will likely take a punt on him and his value will shoot up.
I was always a fan of going after the top championship prospects - Cahill back in the day, Maddison, Olise, Eze more recently. Unfortunately for us, a "punt" these days is normally £20m+ for a highly rated championship player.

The new strategy for young players should be looking at the 18-20 Yr old prospects at City, Chelsea, arsenal etc who won't be breaking into their 1st teams anytime soon and want game time.

That Palmer went for 40m though, as did Gibbs-white etc

It’s not easy but we need to scout players like Brighton do . Need a very well connected DOF , like Chelsea did when they got Frank arnesen back in the day. He built the scouting and youth set up and it’s still paying dividends yoday

It will be interesting to see the January transfer window, unless the 10 point deduction is sorted early/mid January a lot of Clubs will be reluctant to spend in case they get 'investigated'. The EPL made a rule this week that payments for transfers can not be longer than 5 years which makes Chelsea's plan of paying £3 a month on Klarna for 30 years for their transfers not possible anymore.

I think we will see one of the lowest £ spend in a January for a long time and transfer fees will start to come down. I can't see us doing much business while we are in the situation we are with the 10 points and the takeover not going to go through until the situation is resolved.

Think you might be right and the arse might fall out of the market for a bit. The international transfer market (other than Saudi) has already slowed down a fair bit and if the ability to sell players slows down the ability to buy follows.

There seems to be plenty of clubs close to the wind on FFP and they now know what the punishment is (in the unlikely event the Pl treat everyone the same).

Man Utd and Newcastle have exited the CL early and Chelsea are unlikely to make Europe at all again so that’s big spenders who might have to check themselves. Keep reading that Man U or Chelsea plan to shift fringe players to buy but who is paying big fees and wages for players who can’t get into those sides?

It’s another reason to hope we don’t require a big Onana / Branthwaite sale to keep the lights on because fewer teams might be able to afford the amount we’d want.

I can see us hanging on to Branthwaite for another year, unless we got some truly ridiculous offer. I dont think its too hard to convince a young player to stay who has developed so much under Dyche that hes up for the national team. He will understand hes very early in his career, has so many years to play wherever he wants, and learning for another year in a system that so clearly suits him and impresses the national team bosses is surely appealing. Maybe Im wrong and he really decides hes to big for it in the summer, but I think in most cases like this its easier to hold onto a player than someone who has hit their stride at 25.

But what if he wants to learn under Pep!!!!!!

Its all moot, it all depends on who wants to buy him and when.

I cant imagine every single scout that watches him isnt telling their DoF that they really, really need to buy him ASAP.

I suspect we will get offers in Jan and sadly our financial situation at that time will determine our answer.

Sadly this is true and it will be a good indicator as to where we are regarding possible administration.

If he's still here then i would guess we are ok with all the rumours flying about.

I wonder if when he does leave if we change the MO of making him a judas before he leaves.

But probably not.

I think the manager and DOF can be strong enough to convince a player they talk to daily to hang around for another year. Certainly worked with Richy and others, so no reason it cant again unless the player himself is 100% determine to force it. Not every player at 21 has the same motivations.
