If we want another midfielder Hayden Hackney or Dan Neil for me.

What type mids are they i guess from the championship would be good to get another in to grow into the team

Neil is more of a Garner do a bit of everything and Hackney can do that but also played defensive mid a lot (looks and plays a bit like Declan Rice)

Championship is a great place to grab talent but sadly the days of it being pretty cheap are long gone. Charge us through the roof probably.

Adam Wharton sounds like tbe one for me.

Will check these two also though.

£150k a week seems to be a rough estimate based on a few sites, he is also 27 nearly 28 which surprised me a bit. Seems like an expensive deal for us tbh.

Too expensive an an injury risk. But if we could move on Gomes/Gana then if fit hed be an upgrade short term before we sign u21 replacements.

Exactly. Thelwell has done a good job in reducing our wage/turrnover % so let's not go back to the dark days again with huge waged, fairly average players. For comparison I believe Garner is on like £30k from the few sites I checked.

Thats good value for Garner.

And long may the change in approach last. Phillips would be an expensive addition into an area where we have decent prospects and the possibility of partnerships developing; i.e. Onana and Garner. I'd rather we focus on improving the quality of our full backs and another striker.

Beyond Garner / Onana we dont have anyone else beyond the summer. So we need two new players.

Investing in someone like Wharton may be more sensible, looks a good one. To be honest i think we've been looking at central midfield for a while anticipating this summer, i think we will have a list of target quick to hand.

Have to have a list of targets. Need two new boys in as backup to become rotation and then push the current two.

Not for me, the likes of Neil at Sunderland are better prospects or that kid at Boro. Wharton just doesn't do enough, drifts in and out of games. I'm just not convinced by him.

Wharton is 2 years younger than the others. Clearly been picked up early by England youth with 6 u19 caps.

From what ive seen he looks very could, will check Nymzees two picks also.

You'd go for Neil as your u21 choice?

Yeah mate....looked good to me when i sat down to watch him mate, bit of balance about him. Haven't seen the other two tbh - will give them a look. ;)

We're ok for 8s if we keep Garner, Onana and the Duke. We could do with another 6 and id like an alternate playmaking 10.

Couple of fullbacks obvs as well.
Onana has to be 6 as an anchor and Garner as an 8. Then we need a backup for each.

I'd be going all out with any money in the coffers to sign Jobe Bellingham, the lad is class and needs the opportunity in the top flight ASAP as someone will snap him up and he has immense sell on value too, his potential is huge and is shadowed by his brother's limelight.

I like the sound of him and Wharton. Will check him out too...saw somw highlights of his ages back.

Strange hes not gotten a move to the likes kf a dortmund or a big side?

Can't see anyone buying Gomes when he can go for free 6 months later.

Seems like alot of clubs still do this.

Especially Saudis could be an option for both him and Gana.

Yeh him too.

Dan Neil looks like he enjoys a crunching tackle.

Nothing really stands out for either aside from looking like all rounders (if good at everything thats very positive).

Bellingham looks to have the grace and Whartons highlights look like hes going all the way to me.

Hopefully Thelwell has been watching them all.

All could change by January, but where Sunderland are at the moment, I can't see them selling anyone decent half way through the season. He was linked with a few big clubs like the RS on deadline day, but who knows if that was just his agent trying to tempt someone like Luton into making a bid.

Could see the same happening with Boro too for Hackney, but for very different reasons. But they made the playoffs last season, so they could still go on a good run.

Wharton was mentioned as being available at £15mil last summer. Meanwhile Jobe Bellingham went for just £3mil.

How much would Neil and Hackney be rated at you think?

Archie Neil at Leeds would be worth a go if they dont go up as well.

Didnt realise both Dobbin and Okoronkwo were in the England u20s.

Somewhat interesting to see their levels compared with the recent u21s sides. Gives us an idea on how much the midfielders were mentioning may need to step up.

I like him as a player but I think longer term Hayden Hackney (lad at Boro) is probably the better player out of the 3.
