If we do sell him then we need to stick a sell on clause in there
I'm not sure it's that, it's more to do with the quality of player they attract in the first place. In recent years, if anything, many players who came through our youth set up were all about technical ability and simply didn't have the physical attributes to succeed at the top level. The likes of Dowell, Kenny, Davies have all come through as very nice footballers but with no pace, strength, dynamism etc. Players like Warrington look similar in that sense. Branthwaite is someone who theoretically has both the physical and technical attributes so hopefully he pushes on.Our youth team is a mess, I always remember a few years back when we won the reserve league under 21 or whatever it's called now. Match was on Sky, big crowd at Goodison, played Liverpool and it was the first time I ever seen Trent Alexander Arnold play, the technical ability comparisons between both sides was scary. We clearly had a result first philosophy under Unsworth and zero emphasis on developing players. Doesn't seem that much has changed
He's quicker than Tarkowski, Coady and Keane and is genuinely two footed and comfortable on the ball.I've been watching him in the extended highlights that are available. He's slow even by Dutch standards. Clumsy too. He's no improvement on the guys we have at the back.
He's certainly a nuisance in the box though, due to his sheer size more than anything.
Don't think there's ever been a chance of Mina being renewed, think Dyche's preference for Keane and the performances of Branthwaite make the permanent signing of Coady less and less likely too- the fee is still very low and tempting but the wages add up. Can see our CBs next season being Tarkowski, Keane and Branthwaite, with Godfrey and Holgate as versatile backup options and Welch getting a loan.Bring him back and let Mina leave (sees to be on his way anyway) and save ourselves £20m (in fee for a new CH)
Holgate - who he?Don't think there's ever been a chance of Mina being renewed, think Dyche's preference for Keane and the performances of Branthwaite make the permanent signing of Coady less and less likely too- the fee is still very low and tempting but the wages add up. The problem with that imo. Tarkowski is a solid CB, but isn’t the greatest, Keane can win headers but regularly makes mistakes as we seen v forest. And it usually affects him for the next few games. Godfrey hasn’t really shown he’s a good enough CB. So we would be relaying on a kid to step up and turn in to a very good CB overnight, because Tarkowski and Keane aren’t good enough to be our first choice pairDon't think there's ever been a chance of Mina being renewed, think Dyche's preference for Keane and the performances of Branthwaite make the permanent signing of Coady less and less likely too- the fee is still very low and tempting but the wages add up. I disagree on Tarkowski, he's plenty good enough to be a first choice PL centre back IMO. Keane we know isn't brilliant but I think he's good enough to rotate with Branthwaite if he has an adjustment period - but we're not talking about a kid turning into a very good CB overnight, he's been turning into a very good CB over a season at PSV. I think Tarkowski alongside a better CB he would be ok. Dyche asking for trouble if he thinks Tarkowski and Keane is good enough next season.I disagree on Tarkowski, he's plenty good enough to be a first choice PL centre back IMO. In an ideal world maybe we ditch Keane and bring in a better CB, but a) Dyche likes Keane and b) I don't think we should be spending money on CB unless we absolutely have to - summer is all about getting some quality attacking options.
That's not what I took, it was mainly about how he was fitting in.Oh look, the media have decided, that one of our players is too good for us and are trying to sell him ( again )
