Jarrad Branthwaite

Thing about PSV is that they are renowned across Europe for developing talent, so if you're a promising young player in their 1st team there's a high chance you can earn yourself a move from there to a top European club. So I could see the attraction for joining them from Branthwaite's side (if he is even attracted). It's a more stable environment than being involved in the car crash that is EFC. I do agree with those saying PSV probably won't be able to afford him though

The reality is as well, that PSV will not be able to afford his wages permanently.

Brainthwaite's next contract, be that here or elsewhere is likely to be reasonably substantial, and probably far beyond what a Dutch team would want to commit to longer term.
I was thinking similar would they even be able to afford a fee for him what we’re likely to demand? Their record transfer was €14m and that was over 20 years ago. I’d imagine we’d ask in the region of about £20m which can’t see them paying.

He isn't on high wages at all.

He has been linked with Liverpool, United and City before his move to PSV and his recent positive run in the side.

If he was available, I honestly think there will be suitors far beyond PSV interested, who will pay a lot more money.

Our gamble, is what figure are we happy to be compensated on that potential. Let's say there is a potential of a 50m defender in there. At what figure do we say we are happy to take cash, while not being burdened with a player still learning on the job? I think 20m+ would be approaching that zone, but I'm sure there will be a wider range of views.

A couple of other variables come into it mate. What league we are in for one - there may be a fire sale. Thats the nuclear option.

If we stay in the PL, a lot will come down to the lads opinion - he sounds like he's enjoying himself, his contract runs another two years from next summer, so we are offering him a new one shortly and giving him opportunities or other loans or he's not signing one. How Arsenal strategically managed Saliba may be worth a look at.

We are massively overstocked at centre half - so we need to downsize that area and see what we can realistically offer the lad - Dyche can point to the likes of Keane, JT, Mee, Collins as all highly paid PL defenders he developed. We may dangle improved terms on a deal.

If we have a low threshold for selling him and he has one to leave, then i think we are in a strong enough position, we've taken in a lot of revenue this financial year - so we dont need to sell in the way we did during the Richarlison fiasco last summer, so we have a fair bit of leverage to get a good deal if required.

While we don’t have PSVs reputation and model for developing talent , ironically by default we do have something to offer Branthwaite in that area with the likes of Richarlison and Gordon moving on to “ bigger” clubs on better wages . “ Stay with us Jarrad, if you’re good enough you’ll move on to a “ bigger “ club . “

I would love for us to get our shoite together , get the team, finances and the Everton Stadium sorted and become an attractive proposition not only for Branthwaite but the likes of Isaac Price and other youngsters and allow us to build for the future.

Breaks my heart reading that mate, but its true all the same.

We were not that long ago in the mid/late noughties early teens the club young players would pick because they knew they would develop here and get chances.

it’s a shame PSV allowed themselves to be asset stripped in January really

Our youth team is a mess, I always remember a few years back when we won the reserve league under 21 or whatever it's called now. Match was on Sky, big crowd at Goodison, played Liverpool and it was the first time I ever seen Trent Alexander Arnold play, the technical ability comparisons between both sides was scary. We clearly had a result first philosophy under Unsworth and zero emphasis on developing players. Doesn't seem that much has changed

I've been watching him in the extended highlights that are available. He's slow even by Dutch standards. Clumsy too. He's no improvement on the guys we have at the back.
He's certainly a nuisance in the box though, due to his sheer size more than anything.
