Not young future centre halves we dont ....
He's the only one that will bring in a decent fee. We are effectively back to the dark days of wheeler dealing so there's little value in selling Keane or holgate as they won't bring in enough to be able to recruit any quality.

In an ideal world I would absolutely keep him and bin off Keane/holgate, but we're not in an ideal world. We can't have 7 centre backs when we have glaring gaps in other areas of the squad.

Fee how much will a young star centre half cost us?

Let’s hope Everton FC don’t make the same mistakes with Branthwaite as they have with many young players.

Antonee Robinson anyone?
It’s not really a similar situation, Robinson was a player we didn’t have a pathway for (we had Digne), the fact he’s done well doesn’t mean we should’ve kept hold of him.

Whereas Branthwaite has top class clubs sniffing around and if we do sell it’ll be because of the fee involved rather than us not thinking he’s good enough to break through.

Personally I’d want mega money to sell to United or whoever (and twice as much to the other lot)- if he was a permanent PSV player I doubt they’d accept less than 25-30m for a top emerging talent, given the amounts other players have gone for, so we shouldn’t be even considering anything less.

In a perfect world we wouldn’t sell at any price but that’s unrealistic- big money for a player in a position we are well stacked could go towards a young talent for the positions we are sorely lacking.

Whats our combined ages of all our present centre backs ?

You keep him end of -

The likes of Branthwaite and 18 year old Francis Okoronkwo are the way forward for us, buy them in when they are young ( both cost under £1 mill) , develop them for our squad , only sell for an offer greater than £40 mill. Branthwaite has all the potential to be a regular centre back in a mid table PL team , which is us hopefully. At 20 he’s got size , pace , good heading ability , is decent with both feet and can read a game comparatively well. At his age he will make mistakes that will be punished at PL level but that will improve with game time and good coaching.

The key part is that is that Brands' PSV twice tried to buy him...at what seems a derisory price...permanently...he signed him, sees him, he knows he's prospect.
The piece stated we have a glut of centre backs, in theory yes, but then you check names.
Holgate, Keane...and the soon to be out of contract Mina.

Keep.
In fact PSV offered over their transfer record to sign him:

For me, we should be binning off Keane, holgate and mina. However, nobody will buy them or at least pay what we want for them. Therefore branthwaite is our only sellable asset. Could be the deciding factor if we want to rebuild.

I dont understand the part ive bolded.

Youre suggesting selling Branthwaite in order to use the funds to "rebuild"...

...ideally by signing another Branthwaite?

We should extend his contract. Hes always looked like he'll hit the top.

Next season we'll have Branthwaite, Patterson, Onana and Garner likely in the first 11.

We should be adding to that group. £40mil would be peanuts to what we'd get if these players reach their potential.

Potential new spine next season:

Branthwaite 1.96m / 6'5
Onana 1.92m / 6'4
Beto 1.94m / 6'4

Thats pretty imposing.

If we sold branthwaite, we could potentially get about 25-30m if an English club bought him. That should be reinvested in attack. We have tarkowski, coady, Godfrey, keane and holgate. Selling Keane and holgate wouldn't bring anywhere near that much money so may as well keep one or both of them as they aren't regular starters.

None of our centre backs are over 30 so all have plenty in the tank, plus Welch is 19 and also highly thought of. I’m not arguing we should be desperate to get rid, but if big clubs have the scent we could look to rinse them and if we did he is a player we wouldn’t even need to replace.

Realistically everyone has a price, but Branthwaite’s should definitely be a very big one.

No. We have 7 centre backs. 6 when mina goes. We need to rebuild our attack.
