The squad selection feels a bit like seeing a Ferrari drive down the street with the back end of a Honda Civic. Massive liability on the left side. I think a lot of teams are gonna find joy in twisting up Shaw/Trippier or whoever they put next to Stones. I just hope the blame doesn't get put on Pickford instead.

Some additional rest is always a positive though, and I don't think the lack of selection is going to harm us in transfer negotiations for him. If Man U thinks we would suddenly drop his value, they've got a leak in their head the size of the one in their roof.

The Southgate thing is an odd one.

+'s Culture and everything around the team vastly improved, except the football.

-'s
  • I'll never forgive him for the Italy final, utterly gutless.
  • I sort of don't like the way he weasel'd into the job via the youth teams after a very indifferent period as a club manager
  • Although his record at major tournaments is better than anything in my living memory, we rarely hurt big teams in a big competitions. Lost twice to Croatia Belgium in '18, '20 stuttered to final after early promise, didn't really land punches on France in '22.
  • We put away other top 20 teams, we struggle vs top 10. Fundamentally I don't see tactics to unpick these sides, or a will to attack with 5+ players which you need to do

Part of me sort of thinks he's lived out a charmed period in World Football where Germany, Spain, Italy, Holland, have all been bang average at the same time. In that period he couldn't beat Croatia, Belgium, an ageing Italy or an arguably superior France and I think the others are catching up again which makes me worry for this summer but it's not like we need to beat all those teams.

I just don't see who's gonna hurt those big sides in his style of football

BUT PLEAsE PROVE ME WRONG LADS.

The last very good international side was the Spain team that won the tournaments but have been awful since. The Germany team of that time (that eventually won the 2014 World Cup) was good as well but have been awful since. Brazil have been poor for a while now.

France have been good on paper but performance wise flatter to deceive under Deschamps but still won a World Cup and reached another final which Southgate had the chance to do. The Euros was an open goal the way that tournament was scheduled for England.

It's wide open for England again.

Most annoying think for Young Superstar, is he’s twice the player Southgate is, imagine being told you didn’t make the squad by someone who couldn’t lace your boots.

Good for us mind, he played all last summer.
