being skint doesn't always man giving people away, gaurantee he wouldn't go for anything less than 60m.

we were skint when we sold gordon and still got 40m and he wasn't anywhere near as important as branthwaite
Yes, but we wanted £60m for Gordon and as proven by the Newcastle documentary they knew we were skint and knew we would give up eventually if they held out long enough.

They have a massive worldwide following which I think probably covers a lot of their terrible transfer dealings!
Also have 2nd or 3rd highest revenue in the world.

Without ever getting into FFP issues

Never seen 60m quoted and even jf we did that's just playing silly buggers

Plenty of stories knocking about from when Chelsea were interested/ bidding.

Then in the Newcastle documentary we were apparently pushing for £50m plus £10m add-ons but Staveley wanted to play 'hardball' and they simply waited for us to break and accept less.

how on earth do they hold the aces when the player is ours under a long contract?

we needed money when we sold gordon and still got a valuation that suited us, again he was nowhere near as important as branthwaite is

….in normal circumstances that would be the case, but the point being discussed is if we’re desperate to raise funds. The bonus will be if there’s a bidding war.

Not for me mate, we made a modest profit on what we paid, before you take into account what we sold him for.

He was our best player and as such, you need to be compensated on how much it would cost you to replace your best and most influential player.

Like i say he was worth far more to us then £50 mill, was furious.

We made a modest profit because we over paid when we signed him, as we love to do
