You have to laugh. Bar John stones, out of every English centre half current, branthwaite will go on to be the best and win more simple as that. Yeah granted won’t be with us, but he simply should be starting next to stones.

I honestly believe that the issue with Branthwaite is how much better he is than Maguire.
Southgate was a good centre-back himself. He knows what he's seeing in training.

Actually that's an excellent point. I.e., if he plays Branthwaite in a friendly chances are he will light it up and as a left footed, 6'5, quick centre back who is comfortable on the ball, the media will bang the drum for him to start over his beloved Maguire...

2 - he plays, and lights up the tournament. We are able to get silly money for him.

3 - he gets a few minutes, enough to remind people just how good he will become. We don't sell anyone else, and see him go for only £40m.
