2020/21 Jean-Philippe Gbamin

Godfrey's been absolved of any blame because he's a centre half who was asked to play right wing back (possibly for the first time ever?) by the manager who you say definitely wasn't to blame. We lost for a number of reasons, one of which was that the substitution of James for Gbamin made us no more solid - because Gbamin looked every inch a player who hasn't stepped foot on a pitch for 20 months - and much worse at keeping hold of the ball.
You do realise JAMES asked to come off

I believe so yes. I mean I suppose the manager could have said no we’re winning 1-0, you’re not injured and I’m not paying you £150k a week to decide you can’t be arsed anymore, or made a different sub, but we can pretend he had no option but to bring on gbamin if it makes you feel better.

That’s the hand that was dealt in afraid.
Gbamin will have to start playing sometime.

Sorry I’m not sure what you mean? Yes gbamin will have to play at some point, but ideally he’d get under 23 games first and not be sent on with an important game on a knife edge. I’m not sure that’s a particularly controversial view.

Perhaps Ancelotti just thought...

Allans out again and Doucoure is crocked so I need to get this guy up to speed.

Hes also said depending on Gbamin he may not need to buy a player there this summer. He'll buy a midfielder for sure but perhaps a different type if he rates Gbamin.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but as we did drop points you can see why people are suggesting brining on a player who hasn't kicked a ball in the league for 20 months to try and hang on against a pacey side was wrong.

I'd have brought king on myself, you can't just go a goal ahead and then not bother trying to kill the game off, which we seem to do slot, get a goal then spend the rest of the game hanging on for dear life

That surely is down to the manager??

What @Carloblues said really. I’m not saying it was the worst decision I’ve ever seen or anything, just that it clearly didn’t work and it isn’t that surprising that it didn’t, all things considered.

Oh ye it's not on gbamin like,.of we were 2-0 it would have made a bit more sense to get minutes, but we was always hanging on towards the end with the way we play so bringing on someone who's not played and being asked to chase around zaha etc was the wrong call IMO again though this is just hindsight init, we win that game and everyone praises the sub

I understand where you are coming from, but if not him, who replaces James?
Ideally you would give him game time somehow, but the first team squad is threadbare.

Why ? We didn't lose because of Gbamin, we lost because we didn't take our chances, we lost because our two best players on the night had to come off, Coleman because it was his 4th game in 12 days and James because he wanted to come off. It could have been a free kick to us i felt DCL was impeded, from there Keane and Godfrey (who has been absolved of any blame, Zaha came into it when Godfrey came on) had to much or a gap between them. Rob Green also said Olsen was poor and i think i would agree.

Plenty blame to go around ere mate but definitely not on Carlo or Gbamin.
Am I missing something? We drew against Palace we didn't lose.

We lost 2 pts
It may have felt like a defeat but losing from a winning position costs 3 points not 2.

Agree with those who say Gbamin shouldn't be anywhere near the bench - an under 23 player more use atm. No certainty Gbamin will ever recover, unfortunate as noone's fault but a complete waste of money
