Money we've spent mate we should be comfortably top 6 - its like handing a building firm 500k to build you a top of the range house to end up with a 2 bed shack.

Questions need asking about those spending the money these past 3 years.

Brands can’t be blamed for Gbamin being injured. Equally it wasn’t his fault Gomes broke his leg.

He can be blamed for some things but Gbamin can’t be labelled a bad buy, he’s hardly played due to injury.

Yes ok that’s fair, money has been wasted.

But it’s gone, you can’t change it so let’s move On and hope that the club and brands learn lessons and improve.

Let’s not forget a lot of teams around us are also spending big sums, loads of teams now challenging for the top6/4.

It’s a world away from when Chelsea got money or even city. Who could go out and buy players from teams above them. And were only competing with 2/3 other teams

When he does eventually come back whens the cut-off between him lacking fitness/being finished. I just worry we lack the ruthlessness to get rid if he doesn't have it anymore. We can't keep all this deadwood on the wage bill if we want to compete with top clubs.

What’s forgotten is how much money some of these teams wasted (and continue to waste) but they were in an environment where there was 2 decent teams in the prem and 4 CL spots so even a bad year could see you end up in 4th, that’s not the case now.

Chelsea have been brilliant in the transfer market yet even in the last few seasons they have Bakayoko Morata Zappacosta Kepa Schurrle all big money signings who failed. The list of Liverpool failures before Klopp came in is absolutely enormous. Same at United. Pep is buying a lot of duds now at City but even when they were improving no one can say that Roque Santa Cruz, Robinho, Mangala Fernando Negredo were massive successes.

The difference is that they had money to spend when there was no FFP, and they were getting CL revenue to paper over the mistakes. FFP is now shackling us for past mistakes and even if we have a good season we may not make top 4 to capitalise on it. That’s the challenge now. It’s completely different.

Arsenal Chelsea Liverpool United are spending 70 mill pounds on single players yet we’re bashing Brands because players we paid in the 20 mills for have broken their leg or been injured for ages.

Nor for injuries to Coleman, Digne, James and Richie's suspension.

Foreverblue92 has a thing about Brands and harps on about players brought in not good enough and conveniently ignores those who have been removed.

Can we buy a crystal ball for brands or do we need to wait till January and does it go against ffp? I'm assuming that is what he needed to avoid signing a player with no previous injury issues. ..... But yeah let's rush him back before his muscles have strengthened and have another 6 month wait for the sake of a few more weeks

Nearly all of the best players in our team are signings that have arrived under Brands. Most of the players that people want out: Pickford Kenny Davies Sigurdsson Tosun Besic Bolasie arrived before Brands did.

Yet some people want to reverse this process? Even Iwobi is starting to look decent now under a proper manager playing him consistently.

In my book Delph is a signing that hasn’t worked out and I think we massively overpaid for Mina on the back of his World Cup. Bernard has been disappointing but he was a free.

In bold, I agree. Look to better times ahead.

You're making a problem out of something that isn't even a problem yet.

Also, if the guy is finished because of this how are we going to get rid? It's not really about ruthlessness it's about him not being an asset we can shift. He'll probably still demand a comparative wage, even if we were to sell him at a reduced price. He'd just be another Bolasie, Tosun or Sandro (how we got a fee for him, I'll never know)

I think people are right to be realistic about what gbamin could offer if he comes back but people here are just downright pessimistic.

Spot on.

People seem to forget that there are 6-7 other clubs in the league whom spend wedge on the regular.. so to say we should automatically be top 6 because we've spent a bit? it doesn't work like that..
