Well honestly mate you'd like to think that with Lampard coming in, he's busted a gut in training and Lampard thinks "yeah he deserves a spot on the bench at least" and says to Dele or VDB "hey lads I'm gonna give you one more week of training just to get you a little sharper".
The fact VDB went straight in the bench and Dele as well I'd say means Lampard thought he wasn't a useful bench option.
So you’d rather see JPG on the bench than one of those two. That’s fine, was just curious.
No mate not at all. My post wasn't about my preference for him to be on the bench or starting. My post was the observation that as soon as there was a bit of competition for spots, he was binned off immediately
I'm not sure you're quite understanding his point here.
I very much am. Wondering why a player can’t make the bench but not actually wanting him on the bench ahead of anyone that was on it. If we don’t think he should have made it is it any surprise Lampard didn’t.
If there were 5 keepers on the bench I’d understand but there wasn’t.
But he's not saying he should be on the bench? He's not wondering or saying it's a surprise, he's saying it looks like we can give up on him making an impact on the team when he can't even make a 20 man matchday squad with a couple of key players already missing from it.
He said it’s quite telling Lampard has come in and JPG can’t make the bench (did first game) but wouldn’t have swapped anyone for him anyway? Maybe he can’t make the bench because he’s not as good as the other midfield options on said bench… same reason Tosun couldn’t oust DCL from the bench. It’s not quantum physics here.
Exactly? It's telling that he is not seen as one of the 4 best midfielders currently available despite our midfield being rubbish (or seemingly seen as a good option to play centre half which I think you've mooted). Nobody's saying it's a surprise or a bad decision, just that it appears to confirm what many of us thought already, that his career here is all but over.

It is he must have lost mobility and confidence required at this level will probably be loaned back to France gutting as we are crying out for someone with physical attributes and mobility in midfield
