2021/22 Jean-Philippe Gbamin

Maybe because from the club's perspective it has already been dealt with?

Despite the assertions on here, the club will have known about this for a while. Gbamin wasn't going in front of a jury, there was no guilty verdict to be made. He'd have already previously entered the guilty plea.

Gbamin has been in squads and played matches since this happened.
I agree, it's been dealt with, and move on, but some will get angry and kick off about it, so it just seems odd the club would risk the ire of fans and the social media comments etc that will come with it. Saying that, this summer showed they don't care about that.

It is a different offence but so is driving at 102mph in a built up area.

That second bold bit, is pure speculation that you are making.

I'm not defending the indefensible. I've pointed out that you can't just say 'TEAR UP HIS CONTRACT' etc about one player who's done something wrong but then ignore that we've got Doucoure who was caught speeding twice - and not just like 5mph over the limit, going over 100mph – because you like him.

They're both as bad as each other. My ex-gf's mum was killed by a speeding driver doing 80 in a 30. They weren't drunk, they were an idiot. They're both ridiculous things to do.
I'm an Evertonian he is an Everton player. I'm not a Watford supporter so what Watford players do is of no interest to me. Everton FC will not rip up his contract which says more about society and it's attitude to millionaire Premier League footballers. And to reference your other post, drink driving and speeding are two separate offences under the law. With different sanctions neither of which hold any real deterrent to Premier League footballers.

Just so I am clear, you are saying that we should forgive a drink driver in charge of a powerful motor vehicle (in evidence) on the basis that he may have a mental health issue (not in evidence)? If you drink drive you are putting innocent pedestrians, cyclists and motorists at risk of death, it's not OK. In any circumstances, just because you are suffering (again, this is supposition on your part, no evidence was presented in mitigation) doesn't excuse reckless, dangerous and criminal behaviour.
not what I am saying at all.

Maybe mental health issues but the law is broken end of drink driving is dangerous, he is in a fortunate position he can afford to hire a driver etc.

Like many others if it were me it really would mean the sack...

Sure the club is on top of it if other things are going on.
don't get me wrong, the law should take its course, he may be treated more severely because of his public status and the potential of what could have happened. I'm good with that. It would mean the sack for me too but not every occupation is the same. It is for the club to apply appropriate employer's discipline sanction too.

My point I was trying to make was that if I was managing a member of staff who was going through tough times (forget his salary) and behaviour starts to become inappropriate, I as a manager wouldn't be doing my job properly if I wasn't considering his his welfare as to why this decline was occuring and what could be done by the organisation to support them.

If there is a welfare/mental health issue, it may not be helpful to plaster it all over the public domain at a court hearing, it wouldn't make any difference to that outcome. If he is one of life's bell ends, I'd have done the proper thing as his manager, considered a welfare thing then discounted it and it would allow me to properly deal with it in other ways,

I'm uncomfortable with all the vitriol on here from people who are supposedly supporters, plenty of players from many clubs who have had long term injuries have talked about dark times

The vast majority are overindulged from childhood , chased by women, sponsors and clubs . Cheered even worshiped by grown men , paid kings ransoms , every bad behaviour excused as long as they perform . Whatever they want or need at the end of a phone . Racists & wife beaters get standing ovations and talk about redemption arcs or play for their counties whilst accused rapists are the highest paid players in the world and captain everyone’s every fantasy football teams .

I’m not excusing it just saying It’s not massively surprising they think they can do that what like . If this was gray or DCL nobody would be suggesting we sack him not a soul .
Spot on. Players get away with stuff if they’re playing well.

No chance would we be reading the same messages if this was Digne or DCL.

We've had this before with drunk drivers, unless its specifically in his contract, the Club can't sack him for it.
If it is, its gross misconduct and they May sack him...probably (sadly) depending on how much they rate him
If it isnt - It's a Legal Matter
Therefore,
Everybody is equal before the law...and yes I know some are more equal than others depending on the calibre (cost) of your Shyster.
So now we move on to the Job of the drunk driver.
A defensive midfielder, a Wing Back or a Welder, it doesn't...or shouldn't - matter.
Unless your job specifically requires a driving licence...you take the legal lumps.
The fact that those legal lumps maybe thought too soft...or too hard - not an issue.
You take the lumps they give you.
The fact that the Wing Back is on £50,000 a week and the Welder £50,000 a year, again - not an issue.
Both turn up for work on Monday morning, on Big Nevs bike if reqd....xxxxxx pounds the poorer and no licence for however long it is.

Points to Ponder;
If it was Townsend or Gray would some of us be baying that loud for blood ?

What happened (can't remember) to Ferguson and Molby as a result of their jail time?

Funnily enough both his sons are really talented.

Back to football.. he looked quite sharp in the latest training video. Anyone know why he was the only one that had a green top on? Is that so he’s treated more delicately as he returns to fitness? Or is it punishment for his drink driving?

I've huge sympathy for anyone undergoing a really tough time in their career as he has with his non stop never ending subseptibility to every kind of injury ever known to man, more especially if it starts badly affecting their private life too. It seems if he isn't actually injured at any particular time he's just about to be.

However if he was even sent down for his drink drive car crash he'd probably be just as useful a player to us in prison as he has been since he signed.

Admittedly with hindsight but he's possibly the worst ever signing by any Everton manager since we were founded in the 19th century.
