Yes mate!! Hilrious

Martinez swooned us all, I was convinced and after that first season you'd be hard to deny it but he wouldn't do the right thing because it would go against his way or his beliefs, How Tim Howard managed to stay in goal towards the end I'll never know.

And also punted Anichebe, so essentially we traded in jelavic and anichebe for kone. Still makes my head spin.
Cheebs was finished with injury at Newcastle where Kevin Nolan did him he was just looking good - Nolan paid compensation for his horror tackle - as for jelly baby started well the faded never produced that scoring form at any other club after leaving .... He looked a tremendous prospect, never reached the heights of - Naismith imo who was a better all round player as a forward - it just sounds like a red echo sensational story to me as if I remember the praise from the players for Roberto on arrival & after was tremendous training with the ball etc - his downfall imo was keeping Timmy in goal after horror shows cost him his job more than anything .....IMO
record points in the prem for us from a manager who fans call poor.......

Martinez was like a breath of fresh air when he came and he understood the club and its history. He won over the fans quickly and his first season was brilliant. When Distin left it broke up a very solid back line and John Stones was not a big game player. It went wrong for Martinez ultimately in 2015/16 and a lot of it was down to the defensive side of the game. Saying that, I remember we went to Man City in 2016 and put it one of the best defensive displays I've seen and we came away with a 0-0. Two cup semi finals in 2016 as well but it was the derby defeat which finished him.
The players turned against him like they have with other managers.

I liked him and wanted him to turn it around but he had no chance with those players at the time. I wonder how our transfer windows in 16 and 17 would have went with him spending that kind of money?

He was a breath of fresh air for sure. Unfortunately I think he was a breath of fresh air in the same way a life coach or salesman can be. It's all gravy until it comes to substance. Although he was saying all the right words the graft was missing. For that reason I don't think he genuinely 'understood' Everton. He was all School of Science and no Dogs of War.

Winners typically leave no stone unturned in their approach. It's remarkable to think that a premier league manager in the modern era would just not bother to practice set pieces. What was he thinking?

I know many people won't agree with this, but I think in hindsight it was unfortunate that Moyes left when he did. I think he could have done a lot more with the budget at Martinez' disposal.

100% this. I'm amazed so many people are still taken in by it. Martinez was a manager for the social media generation, he was very good at giving soundbite answers and was image conscious at all times. He'd have said the exact same things he did about Everton at any club he went to, he knew how to play the game.

You are telling half a story there. He swapped Jelavic and Anichebe for Kone and Lukaku.

I loved Jelavic, that 2nd half of the season, he was up there with my favourite ever players. But it wasn't just Martinez. He had a really disappointing 2nd season under Moyes. 11 in his 1st 16,then 8 in 40+. He played the 1st few games under Martinez as well and never looked like scoring. Then he played in the cup, scored 2 and missed a pen for his hat trick. Everton that.

But yeah, that 11/12 season, from January, he was immense. Shame he couldn't keep it up over a longer period. I always wondered what would have happened if Moyes had played him and Naismith up front instead of forcing Naismith to play Right Wing and completely ruin his confidence.

To think he had no cash loans and inspired signings bar a few duds - I agree-

I also heard Baines said Martinez smelt of wee and poo.

On a more serious note, not sure Jelavic can really be taken as a good barometer here. For a start loads of us wanted better football than Moyes served up and enjoyed Martinez-ball season 1. It sounds more like he knows he could not play a more technical style and needed to be in a team looking to scrap more.
