I was never keen on Roberto Martinez coming to Everton at the time and remember arguing with other blues who would tell me how he was a young dynamic manager who played positive attacking football. I simply felt that David Moyes had left us in a good league position with a solid foundation to build on to move the club forward, and we should go all out to bring in a manager fitting to the task. That said, he did give us an exciting first season... although you could see it wasn't going to last.

Fitness and not concentrating on defence or being out of possession is the main reasons.

I remember us in the second year passing it sidewards around 30 yards from goal a lot

It just amazes me that these people continue to be employed as managers over and over again. Him and Koeman should never have been within touching distance of Everton football club but you really have to question the footballing knowledge of the people who employed them.

I also heard Baines said Martinez told the players goals against don't count and our beautifully constructed goals count for three. Any goals we scored from corners counted against us. C'est incredible!

I’m convinced to this day he’d have taken us down! Followed up by the Koeman /Walsh combo and that awful transfer window it certainly set us back a few years and is going to take another year or sort out!

On a positive note Carlo has made a flippin’ good start in starting to sort out things out!

For sure. That final season of his was so bad. Every team knew exactly how we would play and we just kept passing it sideways. People talk about some of the terrible football we had under Moyes but that period was the worst I’ve ever seen us play.

TBF - Roberto never had the Morishi funds - the ones after since the DOF was hired have mostly been disastrous - Carlo has the funds now so in him we trust - there is still a lot of waste at his disposal.......
