Transfer Rumour Jesse Lingard

Football has moved a fair bit to understanding that wages, and contract length are as important as fee.

If wed have paid double what we did for Gomes, but had him on 50% of the wages and a year less contract we could probably move him on easily now.

On the flip of Lingard, someone told me in January that Lingard, Loftus Cheek and Alli were desperate to play for Lampard. I didnt read too much into it, even after we signed Alli. But sounds like it makes more sense.

It doesnt show weve learnt many lessons though.

I'm desperate to play for Everton too mate, but at 48yo never being really thst good at footy anyway and with a messed up knee from doing s cruciate years ago, I shouldn't, same applies to Lingard.

If Dele is that desperate, then I'd expect to see the evidence of him turning up in great shape and tearing it up in pre season, otherwise it's just words not backed by actions.

RLC I expect will arrive IF Gallacher stays as think literally we have them as the loan/ possible buy options for that spot.

Yes mate.

I dont mean its good. It just explains why they want to come.

A couple of points.

1) We seem to be focussing on frees. In a lot of ways that makes sense.

2) I was told in January, if Lampard came, Lingard, Alli & RLC would want to follow him. Didnt pay much notice to it, but beginning to make some sense.

3) This strategy is a million miles away from young, hungry players. I'm not saying its bad, but it's more mixed messages.

We need a combination of experience but still with desire and ability and youth with potential to grow, one without the other will fail (long term or short term)

Think Martinez first season we had that perfect blend

Lingard and even Alli are a long way removed from that desire mate, especially compared to the decent pros Martinez had.

Tarkowski is more in that mould.

Think we have to be in for these players for the next couple of years tbh mate, we can’t ignore the value frees. From his point of view he has a couple of better footballing options, WHU, Spurs, & Newcastle went hard him in Jan. The only selling point for us is location if he wants to stay in the North West and maybe he might be drawn by the manager.

Id be surprised to get him or Eriksen to be honest.

Im at the point now were I’ve accepted Everton are going to be a leaky ship until BMD with very tight scope to spend. The Lingards of this world are going to be enablers.
Liked because it's a good post. Don't like it because it's true. But you are right, might as get used to free signings.

Hopefully we will, stop the constant massive losses and be stronger in a year or two.

Agreed mate I pointed it out earlier, as I see the value free trend the club are actively cultivating, that tells me a lot.

Really mate, 1 out 3 (so far) interesting,

I’m coming to the understanding that we might not be able to pick an approach or strategy and just reboot with young talent exclusively, im seeing red flags in a lot the club is doing in terms of approach, to make me think, we’re going to just manage and limp along with a broken wing until we hit BMD.

The frees are part of that IMO. Wel have the odd signing, but I see the Tarowoskis, Lingards filling the transition void of our limited finances, regulation problems and need to cut losses and push capital toward BMD. Think we will use the loan market to.

We have scope I think to spend 10-20 mill on players this summer (in my opinion) or rather scope in regulation - so not saying we won’t sign a/couple young hungry one or a Dennis or whoever.

…they might be making the same runs & we’d be a bit open for the counter attack if both played in the same team.
Yeah possibly but better options to have than currently. I’m sure they could play together. Certainly gives us a better goal threat.

Trouble with that strategy as sensible as it may be you’re effectively throwing Lampard and Thelwell under the bus.

Oh yeah, and worth noting.

He’s been a professional footballer for 11 years and played 212 league games. He averages around 20 games a season, yet people moaned that James didn’t play enough

So he’s either extremely injury prone or utterly crap. But yeah, let’s through £120k a week at him

It doesnt necessarily make him crap. He's been at Man Utd all his career who spend a lot of money on players making it harder to get regular games. Is an argument he should have left a few years ago to get that.

So he has no interest in furthering his career if he’s happy to be a bit part player at a club, who during his time, where falling from grace

Probably. I dont think he's crap. He has drifted in the last few years though when he should have possibly grabbed a chance to go elsewhere.
