On the train yesterday coming back from the match I got thinking about Tim Howard and some of the great saves he has made recently, I then thought back to how bad Robles was when he was in net for the Cup. Anyway I was thinking if we sorry when we get in Europe what is going to be Bobby's rotation? He plays Tim as number 1 in the league, but in the Cup Robles. I am fairly certain he would play Tim in europe but that would screw us over in the Cup I am sorry IMO Robles is not good enough. So who would you get in as a 'Cup' keeper???

could pick up Fabianski on a free from Arsenal. he's looked pretty good in the games he's featured in this season and I'm pretty sure he wants to go to a new team

Fabianski is nowhere near as good as Howard and i cant see him wanting to sit on the bench all season at Everton.
 
I think we can't afford the luxury of a youngish goalie, still learning his trade.

That's why I can't see the sense of taking on that 17 year old lad from eastern Europe in January.

Major clubs need to be buying ready made goalkeepers.

To wit I would suggest we go for an old experienced pro as back up 'keeper.

Someone like Shay Given or Paddy Kenny would do the job for a couple years.

Goalkeepers should generally be cut more slack. they are rarely the finished article at a young age.

If we can show patience with a couple of weak seasons from Tim and then see how he came on strong this season, then we can give Robles time.

Shouts that he's not good enough are just ridiculously early IMO. We have a seemingly excellent new manager lets trust he knows what he is doing with this kid.

Not necessarily Paddy....I just couldn't think of another old pro to use as an example along with Shay Given so I put Paddy's name down, Butters.

we dont need that chunky whopper eating up wages
 
i'm happy enough with robles thanks, why do some fans feel the need to write off youngsters after a couple of games? The fact is, we won't be able to get a top keeper in their prime as backup because they would require a massive wage to be tempted - why should we do that?

howard's had his best season here so it's benefiting us with joel there atm. he'll come good eventually.
 
I reckon it wouldn't be a bad idea to try and sign a new back up keeper, just try and find someone decent on a free, give them a one year deal and then loan Robles out for a season to a decent team where he can be their starting keeper, would work him wonders.

If we did make Europe it would be a great opportunity to give him game time but I just don't think we can afford to have him in goals yet.
