Joel Robles

There is absolutely no way we would play Robles as first choice keeper. A huge risk that is. We shall loan him out to a Championship side for a season to see if he is up to the job albeit at a lower level.

I dismiss your comments because you said EPL....

He spent half of last season at Wigan and made nine Premier League apps as well as four FA Cup apps, kept a clean sheet against us in the quarter final and helped keep City scoreless to in the final.

The season before that he spent the second half of the season again on loan, that time at Rayo and made 13 La Liga apps for them.

It's funny how before the start of last season quite a few people thought he'd be our first choice keeper. Yet now after having a few questionable and nervous moments he's all of a sudden not good enough to even be a second choice keeper according to some people.

He's still only 23, which is very young for a keeper. I think people need to give the lad a break, I've still got faith that he will become a really good keeper.

He is still very young for a goalie, and obviously needs further experience. The only way to iron out silly mistakes is to give him game time, which he won't get if he makes errors. It's a vicious circle.

I do however, feel that the only thing I think Roberto got wrong last season was playing him in the FA Cup against Arsenal. While he has the big game experience of the final, I feel he needed to have played more with our defence to build up more of an understanding with them.

He hadn't even lived in England for six months when we signed him so there's a fair chance he's still working on his English, so that could have played a role in his communication.

I reserve my opinion on him. He has his chances in the cup games last season and I am not impressed by his performance.

Never thought Robles would be first choice after he joins. Howard will still be first choice with many years to come, in my opinion.

I am not writing him off now but really not impressed by him so far.

What about the Notts Forest chap is it Darcal??

Karl Darlow, very good young keeper, seen him play quite a bit as one of my mates is a Forest fan, he's been linked with Spurs and Liverpool recently. Alex McCarthy from Reading would be another good option, these two were prob the two best keepers in the Championship last season and both 23/24 and English so good for the quota, not that we struggle with this. I'd like us to sign one of these and get Joel out on loan for a full season to get more experience.

He isn't getting a sniff of being first-choice goal for us if Howard performs like that next season.

I'm still prepared to give this lad a chance next season even if he looked really dodgy at times last year. Play him during the group stage of the Europa League and the League Cup matches. That should mean he'll play in at least 7 or 8 games before Christmas which is decent amount for a back-up keeper to gain some confidence. If he's terrible then have a look around for someone in January.

Howard is definitely our main man for the foreseeable future though.

I think he's poor tbh. 23 is very young for a GK so he may come good one day but I won't hold me breath.

IF we are going to be insistant tho of playing the back up GK in cup comps etc, then IMO we need a better one!

The lad will become a decent goalkeeper when he gets plenty of game time. Goalkeeper is a position in which confidence effects you a lot, and if your not playing you can't gain that confidence. Just look at De Gea at United, he was slated by most in his first season and yet last season after he was almost ever present and was used to the physicality of the league, IMO he was the best keeper in the league.
It's far too soon to write the lad off after a few cup games.
