God our keeper's distributions have been awful for so long.

Still, I think it's a little early to assume Joel will be better in that respect.

I watched him a lot for Wigan I can safely say that, although he is not on the level of Valdes/Reina, he is still much better than Howard with his feet. Not hard, mind.

Mucha was our number 1 last yeah, robles is our number 1 this year.

Before Mucha our number 1 was nash and before him it was wright and before him Gerrard.

I thought Mucha's GK's were a breath of fresh air for a bit last season. Howard's are abominal and by far the worst aspect of his game I think

Dunno, think Howrd's aerial/area command is the worst part of his game. Completely non-existant. We've conceded goals before that have happened because our defence hasn't been confident in Howard coming and making the ball his

Howard is a decent keeper. If this new guy is as good and knows how to distribute a ball I'll be happy enough......

No idea how good the new guy is but hopefully he turns out to give Howard proper competition.

Howards not 'decent' or 'excellent' he's 'okay' always has been, he's a medicore keeper and we've never had the money to replace him properly, along with him being moyes' favourite. He's done a decent job over the years but thats about it, he's never been great. Unsure if Joel will replace him THIS season but he definitely will soon.

Mucha's weren't much better from where I sat, though. Was it reading were he kicked a couple straight out of touch?

That happens to every keeper. Every player infact.

Muchas distribution was better because his vision and reactions were better. If he saw a chance to set someone off he would take it. Howard takes too long and lets the opponents settle back in to position.

In the context i was saying, was acceptable. He wasn't a decent keeper OVERALL but he did a decent JOB.

Howard seems to work best under pressure or when he has a point to prove. When he first went to United he was brilliant for them. Pretty sure he won keeper of the season. Then he got complacent and got the boot. Came to Everton with a point to prove and done really well for us. Seems to have been too comfortable last season. I think Joel/Martinez will be the much needed boot back up the arse. This signing could be a bit of a masterstroke
