Joel Robles

I just have an inherent distrust of Joel and maybe that clouds my view in terms of trusting him not to come and flap, even when realistically he's been in good form for a few games now.

I've praised him in the past when he came in for Howard, but I'm still not convinced he's the long term number 1, but on current form he certainly deserves his place. I'm contradicting myself all over the place there but I just find myself waiting for a succession of clangers from him.

That's exactly how I feel, I'm not sure if its because he dropped clangers at the start, rather than being a solid goalkeeper. I can see 100% Improvement since the early days and really hope he continues too.

That goal was more Baines's fault for not only allowing Sturridge onto his left but also letting him get the shot off.
Also it was Joels first game in about 6 weeks and he'd been sitting on a bench for about 70 mins. He was bound to be a bit rusty. Yes I think he could have done a bit better for the Sturridge goal, but it was hardly a howler and he was also let down his defence that could have done more to stop the shot coming in.

Big test for him on Sunday against that Spurs front line

Good luck to him and hopefully he has a great game

Annoyingly against sides like Spurs Liverpool Arsenal even United it's often a set piece that will cost us or a penalty. Robles is not beaten from open play easily but we always look likely to drop a defensive clanger against top 6 sides.

There always seems to be a nervousness on set pieces or crosses amongst the defence that just isn't there against normal teams.

Hopefully we can get over that by bringing in some better defenders in the summer

Difficult to see where to upgrade. Funes Mori yes we could do with a better centre back (although he's not as bad as people make out) but Williams has just arrived and is he going to drop Baines or Coleman?

Replace Funes Mori and then play the replacement with Williams and Holgate in a three. Keep Coleman in but sign Tierney and rotate him and Baines now and then so that we keep Baines as fresh as possible

That'd help massively I think and Robles would feel more secure with that in front of him

To be honest i would like us to try and find an upgrade for all 4 of them, the rest of the park is starting to look real good. If we only do that in the summer i will be more then happy

Just seen a review of his season so far, how many points has the lad saved us this season. We have so many players on form and showing massive improvement , but for me joel is in the box seat for player of the season with a 1/3rd left to go. Joel started the season as probably the no2 keeper after Koeman brought in stickleback, but he's taken the no:1 jersey and gone from strength to strength.

He has been our unsung hero during this good run of form with so many important saves

Think Baines might be the one to go,the weakest part of his game has always been allowing crosses, and his crossing and dead ball delivery has dropped off this season.Still good as a squad member specially if we make the Europa.
