Joel Robles

Holding onto Howard way beyond his shelf-life was RM's biggest error because Howard was responsible
for losing loadsa points.

Joel has played well for the most part this season but the Spurs goal and the third goal on Saturday has really undermined
his case for keeping the job full-time. If he has a blinder tonight and every game until the season's end then he might nail it
but I'd guess that as of today that we will have a new keeper next season.

improved this year, is he good enough to take us forward?
if we are happy around 8-6 th yes any higher and we need a better keeper, would spend big to get the right one its the cornerstone for the rest of the team.

I think for the 3rd goal he thought Origi was going to run through on goal but it was a very poor piece of decision-making. He has had a few occasions where he makes bizarre positional decisions which worries me.

He's like Howard in many ways, good shot stopper but is absolutely mental and has a mistake in him. If the goal is to finish in the top four then we need better.

yet he pulled of two blinding saves one in the first half just before Coutinho scored from him where Jags then headed of the line, and their sub fullback chip where he clawed it out as it was destined to go into the corner of the net anyway RK is having talks with him to extend Robles contract!
I had him down for the third goal error that's all - the fact that the red lot were allowed just to shoot in did not help!
If he is dropped tonight it would surprise me, but you never know!

Totally far better than Howard comes off his line controls his box - been in good form of late, who played any good in the derby for us? answers on a postage stamp!

I think some of the criticism here is fairly harsh after a game with a couple of mistakes

Poor positioning for Mane's goal but........ he hit it early and through the defenders legs right into the corner of the goal. Plus defensive errors should of led to him never having that effort.

Came charging off his line for the 3rd goal........ the defense had parted like the red sea for that goal, one thing i have been impressed with and he has saved us in certain occasions is he comes off his line quickly and makes himself big. Saved us that way off the top of my head v Bournemouth, Spurs and Stoke. With no one in Origi's way, what is he meant to do? Stay on his line? Origi hit it quick and fast (maybe something they had been instructed to do as they had watched Joel come off his line quickly). It was fairly central but Joel hadnt had the time to position himself properly.

I have seen De Gea (prone to conceding at front post), Lloris (big errors v city & liverpool) & Cortois (Arsenal & Palace this weekend) let in much worse goals this season.

I think if Joel made spectacular dives for all 3 of the goals he would not have taken 80% of the criticism for the goals.

And out of interest who would people say we go out and get to replace him?
Hart? (more mistakes leading to goals than anyone in europe this season)
Butland? (been out for almost a year and i reckon he feels he owes Stoke the loyalty for them sticking by him)
Pickford? (Makes some great saves but has an error in him)
Horn? ( Karius rated higher in Germany and look how he has fared in the prem)

I genuinely challenge for someone to give me a realistic viable option as a good replacement for joel

Tom Heaton is better than Joel.

No chance pal! Im sorry but i disagree with you on that one.
Heaton is a ok/good goalkeeper. Makes a lot of saves but a lot of it is down to Keane and Mee are very good at getting the opposition to shoot from unrealistic area's of the pitch.
Example with what he had infront of him on saturday, (players crashing into each other, defence being split apart, showing coutinho inside, general mayhem basically. Heaton would not of saved any of them on Saturday.

you are more than welcome to argue the case as my opinion is not fact but is Heaton a HUGE upgrade on Joel?
