Joel Robles

Still a very solid keeper, can count the number of clangers he's made this season on one hand. Hart makes more mistakes, high profile ones at that, but I bet the same people slating Joel would be happy signing Hart. Genuinely don't reckon the likes of Forster are any better. Speaking of which, hardly covered himself in glory based on City's 3 goals on MOTD.

Have to agree.

He has massive brain farts though.

And I've said before, unless we uncover a gem for a good price we could spend a lot on someone who's only fractionally better.

Although is Kasper was on the table, I'd listen.

He's a liability not an asset. He won't win you any points making highlight saves. He's pretty much a 5th defensive back out there. I actually think he would be better suited in that position. In order to be a quality keeper you need to not only have keen positional awareness but have the split second know how to give up your body to make the highlight save. Seriously how can anyone applaud and say anything above satisfactory about the guy without commending the back 4. Every game he keeps a clean sheet theres not even a serious threat on goal. Hes had tons of oppurtunites to make highlight saves and I've yet to see one. Pardon my ignorance please post this guys highlight tape I want to to believe in anyone who plays for my Everton. I'm as passionate about the Blues as anyone it's in my blood.

There aren't many great goalies around to be honest. On the whole Joel's done well this season, especially considering the quality of protection offered by his central defenders at times.

By all means go out for Pickford or Schmeichel or whatever but they all make errors.
True this, just watching MOTD Pickford horrorshow on both hammers goals.

i recall two occasions today where that super defence made mistakes and Joel came off his line and made a block, one was at 0-0, can't recall the score for the other. He's no world beater yet (if he will ever be, who knows) but he isn't a duffer either.

I was going to ask what ever happened to the trial of fellow American keeper Joe Klenofsky. Looks like he was going to be offered a contract but ended up shunning Everton for the MLS wow. I'm shocked. Everyone knows The Premiership, La Liga, and Bundesliga are like the pinnacles of World Football. I wonder if there's more to the story. What's the work papers process like? Would I be able to get Dual Citizenship if my bloodline goes back to England?

He's let in 8 goals in the Prem since starting the 2nd Half in the Derby - get a keeper to get stats like that home and away and we will be fine!

He is a liability on crosses though. My heart was in my mouth today every time Burnley launched the ball in to the box (which was a lot). He struggled with crosses, straight long balls and free kicks today. He's a good shot stopper and his distribution has improved greatly but he is too much of a liability when the ball is in the air and we need a more commanding keeper.

Wut

He doesn't have the keeper mentality he should just play defense. He has good footwork on the ball and is 6'5" maybe we can turn him into a Matip like defender. I'm sorry he doesn't have the goalkeeper mentality. If he was smaller than 6'5" do you think he would be a good keeper? The only think he's good at his closing down on shooter and limiting their angle with his big frame. His positioning, mentality, and hands are suspect. Comes off his line too much at the wrong times. Maybe we need a larger sample size on him. I'm trying not to be a hater but put me in the Selling group I'm not buying him as a Keeper. I think he's a decent footballer just not keeper material. You need to have a certain mindset I dont think he has it. I feel like they made him a keeper at an early age because of his size. Do you remember How Stek saved those two penalties at City? He waited and reacted to the shots. While SteK is getting up in age he is a natural shot stopping keeper. He waits and reacts. Robles just flails after he gave up the penalty he just guessed, keepers don't guess they have incredible reactions. That penalty was saveable but he just jumped the wrong way. When you react to the shot if you're beat you're beat but you don't just jump one way. I'm just saying in short he doesn't have the mentality of a top flight keeper. He won't win you any games but he'll lose them.

For those of you defending him saying he should be given more time can you post me a video of his highlight saves so I can eat my words? I'm headed to YouTube to study some tape now.

You're acting like it's impossible for players to play different positions? It's not rocket science. He has good footwork. He's fragile as a keeper how hard would it be for him to transition to centre back? Are you questioning the man's Football IQ? Im questioning his decision making as a keeper? That's fine it takes a rare breed and mindset to play keeper. I'm not doubting him as a professional of the Game.

Mate, they're not playing in the local YMCA 5 a side tournament like you. It's not goalie on the spot.
