John Stones transfer saga

Well, he's developed Oscar, Azpilicueta & Hazard into top players. He brought Courtois back from loan & binned Cech in favour of him. Zouma got alot of gametime last season for a 20 year old & started ahead of Cahill in our last game.

Our much heralded youth isn't all that special to play for a club with World Class players apart from 2/3 players. Namely Musonda, Loftus-Cheek & maybe Boga. 1 is already getting decent gametime, lets see how he develops the other two.

This notion Mourinho doesn't play young players is a bit silly & childish. If they're good enough, they play. The ones that need 2/3 seasons are rightfully sent out on loan.
It really isn't mate, in the past two years under Mourinho Zouma/Kalas/Ake got a combined 8 league starts, in the equivalent period Stones had 38 despite spending almost three months out with injury.

Agree with you that Mourinho has developed Hazard extremely well though.

Btw does Cahill play much on the left at all? Almost always when I see him he is the RCB, even when paired with junior Cbs like Jones/Smalling for England or with Zouma - about the only time I've seen him switch over was when he came on for Terry against WBA last weekend. Just wondering as have never seen Stones play as LCB either in his two years with us/England youth teams so always wondered how Mourinho was planning a Cahill/Stones partnership to work.

Can't argue with that mate. It's not a success to keep Stones. That should be the norm. We need players in, quality players at that as well.
Yeah, decent money required to buy them too.

Others on here seem to think Billy BS has secured a loan again and he'll hand circa £20M onto Martinez. I'm not sure that's enough, but at this stage I'd take it.

We shall see.

Chelsea made one final bid for John Stones of £38m this week, their fourth offer for the Everton defender this summer, but now feel that they can do no more to persuade his club to sell him in this window.

The defending champions have taken at face value today’s communication from Everton that there is no prospect of them signing Stones in this transfer window, with a public statement to that effect from chairman Bill Kenwright giving the Merseyside club no wriggle room ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

The 21-year-old met with manager Roberto Martinez at the club’s Finch Farm training ground and was given the news in person that his transfer request, handed in on Tuesday, was to be rejected and that the club would not sell him at any price. Chelsea did not pursue the player right up to the fourth bid of £38m without some encouragement that the that player had a price at which he would be sold, but are now looking at other options.

The decision was made by Martinez and Kenwright and demonstrates the shifting attitudes of those clubs outside the traditional top six, as they finished last season. With the league on the eve of the £5.14bn, three-year television deal next season and a lucrative international

rights offer coming, the kind of sums offered for players by Champions League clubs in the past are simply not gaining the traction they once did. In a statement, Everton said they had rejected Stones’ transfer request. “Since the start of the transfer window, we have resolutely turned down offers from another Premier League football club for our player. John is not for sale and he will remain a highly valued member of our first team squad.”

Chelsea will now push ahead with a number of other options that they have pursued this summer in the centre-back position although they have not made a final decision on who, if anyone, they will sign. Their policy wherever possible is to sign young, English talent and that points towards a return for Stones at some point.

There was no question in Stones’ mind that he wanted to leave and it was his understanding that he would be a regular starter at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho. Nevertheless, his decision to sign a new five-year contract at Everton just 12 months ago meant that there was simply no leverage in his dealings with his club, who believe that his value in the transfer market will only get greater with more experience and a buoyant television rights’ market.

I just want to go and give Stones a big hug, and tell him it will be alright.

He's 21, and has been the subject of one of the most relentless and intense media saga's I can ever remember.

Yes I reckon eventually he probably does want to go to a title challenging, trophy winning team, and if we can't get close to that ambition then I have no problems with him going.

I think he's been badly advised by his agent, and Chelsea have played some very dirty tactics to distract and confuse him.

He's just a young lad who has had the weight of the world on his shoulders all summer, and it's finally taken it's toll and he's cracked under the pressure.

Just my opinion of course.

you rock, Anna ;)

22 actually & the the original poster said which young talents has he signed & developed into top players rather than yoof

Going to need proof of this. He didn't want him yet he started him ahead of Kaka which was highly controversial at the time.

Don't be stubborn.

1. Can't be arsed looking right now but he was definitely a signing by the president against Mourinho's wishes.

2. Made his debut under him but eh, better player under Ancelotti.

Arsed about him anyway, this is a Stones thread.

I think considering we can probably pay top dollar on the drip 20m should do it. Really shouldn't have to be getting a loan this late in the day though to get players in.

We will see though mate, big few days coming up, hopefully with a good win against Spurs to see us through the weekend ;)

This isn't going to be popular but it does somewhat make our stance in the whole saga seem a bit hypocritical. Didn't even know about this until i saw it posted on twitter

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25843264

actually was this during moyes reign ?

Yes it was.

But the key phrase in the headline is "Everton fined for illegal approach".

Let's see if the F.A. or the PL take Chelsea to task over their behaviour in 2015.

I can see that too. The team have their tails up and Spurs haven't sorted themselves out yet. Hopefully they dont run out of steam last half hour though.

There we have it ladies and gents.

The fourth and final bid goes in on the same day his transfer request goes in.

If anyone needs any more evidence as who has been driving this whole charade then look no further. Its Chelsea and his agent filling his head with pure bile, clearly deliberating with each other without involving the most important party, Everton. You can bet your bottom dollar the media campaign has been driven by those as well.

Pathetic from Chelsea especially. Classless club who, lets face it, only Chelsea fans are proud or respectful of.
No doubt John will be feeling [Poor language removed] right now, he will be sad he hasnt got his way but from what I gather about him, probably very embarrassed and devastated that he has put himself in this position, irrespective of who has told him to.
