John Stones transfer saga

I even had my Kopite mate txt me last night saying he hoped we stood firm as it would be for the good of football.

They've been had off a couple of times now and I think a lot of their fanbase wouldn't have minded if they had left Sterling to rot in the reserves. After all, Brenda was going on all through the start of the summer that even if he didn't sign a new deal they weren't going to sell.

It's not about the money, it's about principle so I hope the likes of us and West Brom stand firm and make the players realise they have a duty to continue to perform to the best of their ability.

Liverpool situation was worse, didn't have a long contract, told the club he wouldn't sign a new one, gave a interview to the media saying he wanted out.

Drop him for the Chelsea match?

We pay him a lot of money to play football. Play him.

If their antics from last season's 1-0 loss crop up again maybe it will hit home for him what a gaggle of blurts they all are... can't wait for that atmosphere, just imagine tanking them/scraping a victory and watching the toys being hurled from the proverbial pram.

The sulky faces
The diving and writhing on the floor
The cockney shrieks of Our Saviour Tezza as they surround the ref to dispute a throw-in...

One of the interesting developments that will arise from the club's stance on Stones is how it effects Everton's ability to buy players in the future. Player agents may be less keen for their clients to become Everton players if they believe it may be difficult to move them at some time in the future.

Agents, as with all intermediaries, rely upon regular activity to maintain their revenues.

that is something I noticed. nearly all the reds I know have been pointing out the pursuit of Stones has been over the top. The idea we are making this up is just nonsense. I'm glad that few people have pointed out Liverpool did take a stance themselves that worked.
I think West Brom and Everton both standing firm is important

True dat.

They may try and insert more release clauses to ensure this.

I am surprised there doesn't seem to have been one in John's contract.

To be honest if players see us as purely a steppnig stone then i'd think twice about whether I wanted them in the first place.

We should be seen as a club who give young players opportunities - which it's proven that we do. We do let players move on but only when it suits all parties, including ourselves

probably true. But hopefully if more than a few clubs stand firm the longer term effect is that players think twice about who they take on as an agent and how their association with them works

The board should ensure they reinforce the fact that it's the timing of a request that's important here.
