John Stones transfer saga

If the article is true I believe it would be a good thing for football as the current game is obscene and the little lower league clubs are truly skint

Imagine the TV money being withdrawn to a massive lot less, bye bye Chelsea

If TV monies were withdrawn as things stand the vast majority of PL clubs would be in the do do .

TV accounted for about 73% of Evertons total income. Chelsea TV income about 43% of theirs. Gate receipts accounted for about 15% of Evertons income. Chelsea's gate receipts accounted for about 22%

Without TV money Everton had about £32million income whereas Chelsea had about £180 million

Having watched the Championship teams suffer with the collapse of their big TV deal it's not something that I hope football at any level ever goes through again but be careful what you wish for as they say

This is hilarious.

"Shut up and take your place, plucky little Everton!" And blame us for "breaking football." Seriously, go do one.

It's not going to gut our youth team, because the more clubs that can't develop the needed homegrown players means the price of English-born lads will rise and rise and rise and rise.

One of the reasons we do as well as we do on a very limited transfer budget is that we can actually build players here. It's going to get increasingly inefficient to buy your way to a title.

And this is only a good thing.
This is something that just occurred to me.

As Sky money increases, more and more PL clubs are going to be able to hold onto their own players - the television deals will allow them to purchase and better compete on wages. This could actually end up leading to a greater degree of parity, as purchasers will have to go overseas to buy more often. This is happening with us and Stones, WBA and Berahino, and Soton with Wanyama. If the Premier League continues to reign as king of the heap among football leagues we may end up in a situation in which good scouting departments and good youth development mean as much as pure cash.

It may end up in a situation in which even Chelsea/City are generally priced out of buying other PL clubs best players...of course those players will still want to go to those clubs at the end of their contracts...but it will be harder for the general rabble to be gutted by the richest teams...which could lead to cracks in the traditional top teams.

Have you not read anything SB Nation Soccer wrote? BK isn't here just to ruin Everton, that isn't enough for his appetites, his raison d'etre is nothing less the complete destruction of football, it's as clear as day, it might seem like we have decided not to sell, but that is just the beginning of his plan. It is truly the end of times.

No. I do not go trawling the net for crap like that. I stick to GOt and that is that. I am sincere in what I said about BK. If you do not like that fine it is your choice just as my post was my choice.

Wouldn't that be nice.

What they will do is limit the size of squads and youth sides.

Clubs will be cash rich but limited in their ability to use it.

This will mean that skill at identifying and developing quality players will become a premium.

Plus the infrastructure to go with it will be necessary.

Yeah, I guess sarcasm and parody doesn't really come across so well in text. When you read some of the opinions on here I can see that what I wrote could be taken as serious, it wasn't.

I see that as a possible scenario.

That said, the TV money is creating incredible inflation. So while we will have more money than yesterday, the price of players is shooting through the roof. Austin comes to mind.

I still can't believe we somehow got Clev for free and Del for peanuts. Some incredible business in today's market.

But only within the PL - Austin is English and at a club with a rich owner.

The smaller leagues around the world (Argentina, the Netherlands, Belgium, etc.) are not a part of this money hose, so their valuations will increase but not by the same rate as PL incomes. So it could, and I emphasize could, lead to a scenario in which good English/homegrown players only move at the end of their contracts/for utterly obscene fees and most transfers are bringing in players from the rest of the world.

Which means the clubs with the best process for identifying and establishing youth homegrown talent and the better scouting systems will rise and the clubs without those qualities will begin to fall away. Because once a player ends up in a large league, like the PL, everybody gets priced out of them - so you have to identify that talent before it proves itself.

People say that but look at players like Rodwell who were training with 'world class' players and not getting a game. He hugely regressed while he was at City.

You get better by playing games. Simple.

The bonus is playing games surrounded by better players.

The idea of "watching" better players is ridiculous.

I watch Barcelona on the tele every week and I aint effin Messi ffs.

It's just great to see the moronic element on the Chelsea boards claiming we have no right to hold him back (although they do have some pretty intelligent folk which is quite disturbing considering they are effectively mafia owned). I have a feeling Fabian Delph will sink without trace this season and as we all know there are plenty of career casualties out there (Rodders, Lescott), so it remains to be seen in what sense he would actually be held back by staying with us, though I am not counting my chickens just yet. My wet dream is £120m to Barca after the Euro's.

It's an interesting idea, and is plausible.
