John Stones transfer saga

You cannot have a club like Everton with a turnover over £140million

Having its players poached and/or media campaigns trying to turn their heads.

For every action there's an equal reaction.

You can't expect Martinez to sit there and see what's been happening happen.

There's going to be inevitable consequences

I can't really see what those consequences will be. As much as I hate Chelsea I don't think they have done anything severe enough that will make the FA act. And the press in this country have a license to print what ever rubbish they want so making any complaints there will be in vain. Just have to get used to this stuff happening as it will rear its ugly head again soon enough.

And see this is the point

When you say for every action there's an equal reaction.

If you think that Everton don't operate in the exact same way ie establishing if a player wants to move before an official approach or by getting intermediaries involvedto then sorry you need to take off those toffee coated specs

If you look at things objectively all we know is JM made a comment in press conference and two players ansewed questions in TV interviews. If that in turn leads to a charge about tapping up then anytime a manger makes a comment such as I like the player is that a lower level of tapping up.

Tapping up in truth is more about illegal direct approaches to the player by a club and believe me that is happening all the time. The Ashley Cole incident was one of the very few times a club goes that far and that complaint entered around proof of a meeting at a London Hotel. Bit like Everton having a player and him spending two days at the club without permission from his current club.

Ignore the comments of pundits or journalists the FA have no control of them. So other than Chelsea making repeated offers and the three incidents I mention above what else do we know as fact?

People are making far too many assumptions about what the player wants, want his agent has done was it a good move or a bad move . I am very much of the opinion that we don't know way enough to make sweeping comments about what the player feels, what his advice has been and from who and indeed what the club promised him.

Wondering what these mean from the Manager...

"We are going to take extra measures in every window from now on to protect players"

“John’s been put under massive, massive pressure. The transfer request was something he didn’t mean to do."
Russian mafia and Cundy force young boy at gunpoint to hand in transfer request shock.

It's a breach of premier league rules

Imagine the fume if they lost points over it.

That won't happen even if they were charged, which I doubt very much that they will.

It's a breach of premier league rules

The rules aren't quite as clear cut as that.

Terry's statement came during an official season launch sponsored by the PL and the questions were asked by the appointed interviewer. Really doubt that anything will happen at this late stage.

It has already been confirmed by a PL rep that no action will be taken against Cahill as he was responding to a direct question . I have just listened again to what he said and he said it would be hard for Stones to turn down a chance of going to Chelsea.open to interpretation yes but again at this stage and it would almost set a precedent in that the charge for an illegal approach would be against the player and Chelsea.

So it's down to what Mourino said. It's now down to interpretation for again as I understand he was responding to questions where he went on to say how much he liked the player and yes he confirmed the bid

The question is did his responses constitue an indirect approach?

Possibly but even so this sort of indirect approach would not be punished with anything like the ferocity of a proven charge following a direct approach and that would be the key for any complaint to really go forward there would have to be evidence of such.

I am not aware of any sanctions or indeed complaints upheld by either the FA or PL following a mangers press conference re indirect approach the best that could happen is a disrepute charge and that I would suggest in view of the time elapsed and the fact that it was in pre season is unlikely

That said it is the PL we are talking about so anything is possible.

The whole "responding to a direct question" thing is ridiculous, since all the questions are agreed in advance with club/player publicists before the interview begins.

Not to mention that even if they weren't, what's stopping Cahill/Terry from saying "he's a great player, but he's contracted to another club, so I can't really say too much."

Quite possibly but you have to prove the players were making an illegal approach on behalf of their club or was it all their own work!
