John Stones transfer saga

Because it takes away all of the crap we're seeing now..If Everton will only accept offers over 50m then negotiations should only start at that point...Everton make that clear in the press then any games played by other teams become obvious

A price on his head wouldn't stop the media games Mourinho is playing, it might prolong it and it might mean other clubs joining in but it wouldn't stop it. It would be used as a negotiating point and they'd start by trying to beat us down from their.

This way if they want to carry on bidding their only strengthening our hand with every new offer and not trying to weaken us.

Exactly. The only facts we know so far are that Chelsea bid 20 mill and we rejected it. Everything else is just hearsay. They haven't even come back with another bid yet.
Nice that Mourinho has admitted that he knows how SMALL clubs operate.
How's it go again, WHAT'S OUR NAME. ?

Talksport have just reported that a £31 million bid will be tabled today !

If that is the case I think it is bye bye John Stones !!!!

We should be holding out for £40 million we could be about to sell them their future captain and mainstay of their team.

Which is why all the uproar and meltdown over the whole scenario is way over the top. Stones has a four year deal and has given no indication he wants to leave. The manager has come out and said we don't need to sell

Martinez was hardly definitive in his initial response. He left a baited hook in the water for Chelsea to willingly bite on.

He dismissed them and the way they have gone about this business, he said we don't want to sell and Stones is an Everton player. Nothing else was needed.

If you think any another response would have prevented this you're only kidding yourself.

Keeping John Stones will be more important than any marquee signing. Its a bigger statement of intent than the £28m we splashed on Lukaku. It says: "No, you can't have our players - we're building something here" - sends a message to the other youth players too.

Whereas if we eventually fold and accept a bid, it will have a negative knock on effect. Where we are just a stepping stone (no pun intended) for quality players.

And as for the role of the media in all this, just despicable. Not a quote in sight, yet every day its a new bid from Chelsea, the foregone conclusion, Stones wants out, etc etc. Not to mention the endless unsettled McCarthy talk. Nonsense.

.....as usual, he's being clever getting it into everybody's mindset that £34m will be the offer accepted. He also says 'small clubs hold out for these amounts which is fine'. Unless they pay £40m I would chase him. We know how good he is and if we are right there will be a bidding war this time next year. Mourinho knows this, Ferguson knew this when he pitched in early for Rooney.

It doesn't really matter what " everybody " thinks. What matters is what Everton wants but even moreso what John Stones wants.

And then half our fans fall for it

The "letter" basically comes from an article by Chris Bascombe (the biggest raving Kopite journo of them all).

I'm taking everything without a quote with a pinch of salt
Bascombe, he's a shady character I wonder who he's freelancing for now, Chelsea ? The turgid Kopite cretin.

Well said. The media are a joke.

Not exactly creative this is it:

John Stones would like to move to Chelsea to further his career and hopes Everton will consider selling him this summer.

Standard Sport revealed yesterday how Chelsea had grown in confidence that Stones is ready to join them now, despite the possibility of not being a regular in the first team and putting his place in the England squad at risk.

But it is understood the 21-year-old is excited at the prospect of playing for last season's title winners, as well as participating in the Champions League next term.

The London Evening Standard revealed lol

McCarthy to Spurs is even funnier. It's been rumoured for over a month now hasn't it? And there has been absolutely nothing new about what they have said. "McCarthy is believed to be furious that he hasn't been given a new contract and would jump at the opportunity to join Tottenham." Pocchettino is confident he can land his man.

No quotes or anything.

I'm not even bothered by it any more.
